Health & Safety:
I have never had a problem walking across campus alone. Even at night, I have never had an unpleasant experience. The only place where walking alone can be scary, especially at night, is High Street and more specifically, in the Short North which is just south of campus. On campus, there are phones with blue lights on them which can be used in case of any emergency and they are EVERYWHERE.

While acquiring a parking permit is relatively easy at Ohio State, it is not very cheap. And the student lots are not very close to campus and require taking a bus to where you need to go. But having a permit makes it a sure deal that there will be a spot for your car. If you are without a permit, finding somewhere to park is an absolute nightmare. Especially off-campus with all of the one-way streets and the construction that goes on.

The biggest Varsity athletic teams at Ohio State are, of course, Football and Basketball. These teams get a lot of media attention and they are the only sports that are not free for students to attend games. They have their own student sections, Block O and The Nuthouse, respectively, that a huge number of us students participate in to support our Buckeyes. However, because students can go to support any other Varsity or Club Sport for free with their BuckID, it is very common for a group of friends to decide to go to the Baseball game or cheer on Women's Volleyball. Also, the state-of-the-art RPAC that was just built a few years ago gives every student the ability to play a few games of racquetball, volleyball, or basketball with their friends, as well as swim a lap or two in the pool. Ohio State is a school that really supports and encourages student participation in athletics.

Both Campus and City transportation are free, because there is a fee included in your tuition at that you pay at the beginning of the year. All you need is your ID. The city transportation runs late but the campus transportation doesn't have as many routes during the evening. The campus security also has a number that you can call in case you don't feel safe at night walking around campus. Sometimes, they take awhile to come get you, so plan ahead.

There are many places around campus to eat and there is always something new to try. At the Union, the some of the stations change what kinds of foods they carry every few months so there is always new options. There are many grab-and-go places that carry quick foods like sandwiches and salads. Other food places carry tasty meals that take a little longer to prepare, but are worth the wait. There are also many off campus areas that take the cash part of your meal plan. I wouldn't buy a huge meal plan unless you plan to use them at the Blackwell at the end of the semester.

Even when it snows, classes are not canceled. Classes are not that far from the dorm, so it is nice to be able to quickly get to and from classes/dorm. The campus and city bussing options are free and since there are many pick ups and many routes, it is easy to catch a bus when it is either raining or snowing. Otherwise, it is pretty warm during the Spring and Fall.

I have never lived on campus. I have commuted to school since enrolling.

I have only received loans and grants at Ohio State. I have had no opportunities to receive scholarships. The financial aid process was straight forward and easy to do. The financial aid advisors were very helpful and willing to assist with any questions I had.

There are numerous sports to compete in at Ohio State. I am an older student so I do not participate in the sports other than attending games as a fan. I do know that OSU has the most possibilities of sports for students to participate in. These include tennis, football, baseball, and various water sports.

There are many options around the campus of Ohio State University. Many restaurants are within a five-minute walk of any building on campus. Options range from American fast food to pizza shops to Chinese and Greek food.

There is a vast diversity of people attending the Ohio State University. This includes various backgrounds of economic, race, religion, and age. Ohio State is very accepting of all people. However, being of Eastern European descent, I cannot know how the non-white community feel about how they are treated by the student body and faculty, but I know what I have personally noticed in classes while attending there for my undergraduate degree. All students are treated equally by staff and I have noticed no racial discrimination by any students. Most Caucasian students seem to try to make all minority students feel welcome and help them with their transition to American schools and culture.

Sports are huge at Ohio State. There's something for everyone to either participate in or just enjoy. Whether a varsity athlete, an intramural participant or just a fan, sports are fantastic here. They really bring the student body together. I mean, who doesn't love Big 10 college football?

There are numerous regular events in and around Columbus. Columbus is the state capital and offers a lovely symphony orchestra, state fairs and large conventions. Ohio State is also one of the largest universities in the US and has a plethora of options in the arts and music. The Short North is right by campus and a tremendous area for good bars, restaurants, art galleries and live music. Furthermore, Ohio State has a great sports tradition, provides lots of recreation area and other accommodations for students.

There are numerous computers and computer labs throughout the campus. It's much better than other universities I've studied at (even highly rated, world-class technical universities). It's great if you're a mechanical or aerospace engineer as there is almost never a shortage in Scott Labs and you have 24 hr access.

The RPAC is amazing and even has swimming pools. Thompson library is also beautiful, it is very modern and always clean. Some buildings are older and the bathrooms are hard to find. The oval is the most popular place to hang out. When the weather gets nice everyone goes out and socializes on the oval.

It snows here in the winter and campus is usually never cancelled, so if you commute that can definitely cause problems. When the weather is nice though there are plenty of places to hang out and socialize especially in the oval!

There are a ton of restaurants off campus. There is a variety of food from all american to ethiopian.

You get some of everything with the weather at Ohio State. We get to experience all four seasons and the University accommodates for every type of weather.

The academics are fairly good at Ohio State. The chemistry department is terrible and majority of the professors are awful. I could also say the same for the Biology department because I did not learn much in that class either. I had to teach myself a lot in the majority of the classes and lectures were usually very unhelpful.
College Junior 2013-07-09T00:29:35Z
We have a lot of options, but they aren't all the healthiest. But at least there is a nice variety.

Facilities are modern and attractive. The Thompson Library is particularly unique. It has eleven floors and is equipped with printers, computers, private study rooms, and an 11th floor room with windows that look out over the entire campus.

Dorms are expensive and cramped. They also tend to be loud. You'd be better off living off campus on one of the many houses/apartments that are available for rent within walking distance of campus.
College Junior 2013-07-08T17:28:46Z
There are numerous athletic facilities/gyms where students can go to hang out, work out, and play sports. There is a variety of athletic clubs on campus, as well as competitive team sports.
College Junior 2013-07-08T17:25:53Z
There are several dining halls on campus with good menus ( a variety of menu options). It is probably cheaper, however, to skip the meal plan and dine on your own. There are many groceries near campus, and students can cheaply prepare meals by shopping at these groceries and preparing their own meals. In addition, there are several restaurants near campus, including McDonald's, Wendy's, Subway, Chipotle, Pita Pit, and Buffalo Wild Wings.

There are tons of things to do on Ohio State campus. There are many athletic centers/gyms, student clubs, and campus events. There are many restaurants and bars surrounding campus. In addition, there are shopping centers close to campus. There are numerous green spaces, including the Oval, where students enjoy studying on the lawn or just hanging out. There are many paths/sidewalks for walking, biking, or running. There is always something going on. Most importantly, there are home football games every other weekend in the fall!
Sorry, there are no reviews.
