College Prowler Take
At OSU, the computer has become extremely important as a tool for everyday use by the professors and the University itself. Information such as assignments, reminders, and class updates need to be accessed through the University’s network, and teachers are increasingly relying on the Internet as a teaching tool. This makes easy access to a computer vital. The majority of students agree that getting your own computer is preferred; if that isn’t possible, however, there are numerous labs around campus. Only one of these is open 24 hours, though, so access is somewhat limited.
Ideally, you should bring your own computer (and don’t forget to buy an Ethernet cord!). There is nothing better than having the security of being able to work on papers or do online research in your own room. Not only that, but AOL Instant Messenger has a solid grip on social life at OSU, so be prepared to constantly update your profile and find new ways to say how much you hate homework! You’ll want to check your e-mail often, too: OSU e-mails both grades and bills. While the computer labs are more than adequate to meet student needs (with only a few crowding problems, during the busiest times), having your own personal system is clearly the way to go.

Computer labs aren’t always open when you need them, and they can be a pain in the butt to get to. Buy your own, put it in your room, and use it whenever the hell you feel like it; it’ll make your life much easier. |

Definitely bring your computer! A computer in the room is a must. Anyone who’s said that they got along fine using the computer labs their freshman year is lying to you. The bottom line is that you’ll be way less stressed out if you’ve got your own computer—trust me. |

The computer network is very fast. You don’t need a computer, but everyone brings their own, and it’s very helpful to have one since some classes are online. You also have to check your mail, grades, and schedule online—so save yourself the trouble and bring one. |

Many of the professors have begun to use the Internet as a helpful guide for their courses, so it is extremely important that you bring a computer which you can use at any time of the day. Baker Systems is open 24 hours a day, but it’s a whole lot better to stay in your room and check your e-mail from there. |
