Campus Life

The school allows you to meet many different people. Although some may say the school is too big at over 50,000 it really is not. You meet so many people within the first week of school and see people around campus all the time. It is very diverse and much smaller than people think

The Thompson Library

The Thompson Library is great- it's huge, very quiet, really conducive to studying. I love to be here. The only drawback is it can get SUPER crowded come exam weeks, so I usually either get here really early, or stay in my apartment to study. Most days, though, it's a really great place to be.

OSU Greek Life

So far, in my experiences here, the Greek life is kind of all about partying. I've had a couple run-ins with Greeks, and they're not bad people, very fun. To be honest, they're cool but it's not really like they're helping out the community or anything, except for some nice relaxation and fun.

OSU Restaurants

The restaurants around OSU aren't too bad. We've got some quality comfort food (southern cooking), a ton of Greek restaurants (yummy pita), and some awesome pizza joints. Overall, the food isn't cheap, but with all the school discounts it makes it more affordable.

OSU Dining

The dining at OSU is kind of all over the place. Don't get me wrong, there are quality places on campus to get great food, but most of the food is lacking in "organic" quality. My family is very health conscious, and my mom makes sure of that, so getting used to some of the food here really did not go well with my stomach. As long as you check the nutritional data, and make sure to AVIOD a few places, you should be able to have a pretty good food experience here at OSU. And don't get a huge meal plan cus most of them end up wasted anyways.

Go Bucks!

So I'm originally from Maryland where popped collars and polos are the norm. OSU was pretty different from what I was used to. There not really a unique style that you can call "Midwest". The social life is great. People definitely like to have a good time, especially during football season!

All Housing Unique in Its Own Way

Most underclassman live on-campus, which is very convinient for navigating the first few years of campus life. There is always something going on, either in your own dorm or somehwere else close by on campus. All the houses are nice, and all are different. Some do not have air conditioning, which is a downfalll. The move into the housing is extremely smooth and easy, which makes the first day there a whole lot better.

We Have School Spirit

The student and staff at OSU have a lot of school spriit. On game day you will usually hear the OH-IO chat from student and buckeye fans. There is not a place on campus where you will find someone not wearing scarlet and grey.

Requires Some Hunting

Living off campus is just as good as living in a dorm here for 1/3 the price. Some places are gonna be a little sketchy and you have to read the fine print on leases but if you do your research you can find a nice place to live for a reasonable price and within walking distance to campus

Options

When most people think of Ohio State the football history and tradition of excellence first comes to mind. But, the university itself is much more than a great winning football program. Ohio State boasts the most collegiate sports teams in the state of Ohio, offers award-winning academic programs, and a President with a bowtie. If there is one thing that is special about Ohio State, it's options. The Ohio State community offers numerous choices in housing, dining, and social events. They bring concerts, comedians, lecturers,and political figures to campus free for students. The social atmosphere is conducive to any type of person and the diversity of students and cultures is prominent, welcomed,and celebated.

Off-Campus Housing

There are tons of apartments and housing close by. The university area has become a lot safer over the years.

Dorm Life

I lived on South Campus in the high rise dorms, and it was the best decision I have ever made! It was close to the middle of campus, dining places, and shopping/restaurants too. I met a lot of great people living in the dorms, and wouldn't trade the experience for the world! However, a downside was the lack of air conditioning. Also, the bathrooms/rooms could stand a bit of a makeover. But other than that, the dorms were a lot of fun and an essential part of the "freshmen experience"!

Good Night Life

it is super awesome. all the bars have good deals.

Buckeye Land!

Perhaps the biggest place you could easily feel at home in; Columbus offers a little piece of everything, and more. The Ohio State University itself produces attraction world wide, football being one of their countless focuses. OSU is also always sponsoring activities for the youth to participate in (k-12), as well as events for partiers, art admirers, comedy enthusiasts, music lovers, and much more! Downtown Columbus offers incredible shopping, dining, history, activities, etc. Columbus brings you the "big-city" atmosphere while leaving the big-city congestion you would normally find in an area like NYC.

Exciting Sports and Great School

Everywhere in Columbus you will find at least 20 people talking about OSU football. It's a big part of Columbus and Ohio itself. We pride ourselves on being one of the best sports school here and having the best fans that anyone could ask for. Along with sports OSU is also a great school, with a huge campus. The students love being here and the people love calling OSU their home state school.

Where Should I Study?

There are many popular study areas offered at Ohio State. Thompson Library is the most popular, and is beautiful at night, with an incredible view of downtown Columbus from the 11th floor. Be sure to get there early during exam time though, as it is often crowded.

Transition to Semesters

OSU is currently transitioning from quarters to semesters (2012-2013), but all of the advisors are being very helpful to students whose majors are drastically changing. There are many majors to choose from and the Fisher College of Business is top-notch, so is OSU's medical.

Extremely Diverse

I've met so many different people and learned so much from all of them. There are so many international students and people from all over the country. The lgqbt group is pretty good too. Before coming to osu i knew maybe one gay person, now my best friend here is a lesbian.

Campus

I love living on campus. Of course everyone knows OSU to be big but I find no problem with it. My classes and track practices are all over campus, but getting on a bus is very convenient and easy. It is very fun to be on campus and you can find basically anything you need right near campus. It is very fun living on campus.

Opportunistic University

My major is pharmacy with a minor in nutrition and another in studio arts at The Ohio State University. All professors I've encountered thus far are very knowledgable and experienced offering as much assistance as I could ask for. If a concept is misunderstood, there are abounding actions to be taken in order to fully understand. Such a large university also provides many shadowing, volunteering, club, and community service opportunities that can broaden your experience, ensure your confidence in your career choice, and also enhance job search and fulfill one's moral ambitions. There is also a pharmacy living community in one of the dormitories which provides students with opportunities to speak with pharmacists and many other ways to get involved in the pharmacy community, which is always favorable for job placement. However, job search may be made relatively painless as these conveniences extend into future prospects also, with the opportunities to be placed in the workforce directly out of school.

Almost Impossible

Nearly impossible to find parking. Parking garages are useless. YOu pretty much have to find a free parking space outside someone's house.

Excellent Use of Size

Ohio State is a very large school, but they use it to their advantage instead of making people feel left out.

Bio Engineering

I am in my fresheman year and like it so much I am enrolling in summer school. I know that I have a great future but it comes with alot of hard work.

The School That Has Everything

If there is something I love most about Ohio State, it's that it has a lot of diversity in the classes offered. From Agriculture to Zulu, there is something for everyone. Additionally, the tradition of excellence claimed by the university is reflected in it's faculty and teaching staff as I've yet to encounter a professor or teaching assistant that was not dedicated to what they were teaching.
