Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students seem to be split on the diversity issue at OU. It’s true that OU may be a lot more diverse than other campuses, especially ones in rural Ohio, but when it comes down to it, most students feel that diversity is a weak point of the University. There is a huge gap between the population of whites and minorities, which the University is hoping to improve, especially with the election of a minority president.

One good thing about the campus, when it comes to diversity, is the influx of students studying from abroad. Many students from all over the world come to OU to study, bringing their language and culture into the classrooms. It’s a great experience to share a class with someone studying abroad—definitely take the opportunity to ask questions and learn about their lives as students in another country. But, international students alone cannot make up for the lack of minorities, whether religious or racial, in the student population. The campus is open to sexual and political minorities, though.

There are a lot of different ethnic groups at OU, but Caucasian is the most prominent race here. However there are programs such as Links that helps bring the multicultural community together.
