Greek life can be a blast for those involved. Even for non-Greeks, getting into their parties can be a wild time. But it's certainly not the focus of social life at OU. Students say that it is a great way to meet people during the beginning of your college career, but certainly not necessary for all social interaction (the residence halls and random parties are more than enough). Most students believe that joining a Greek organization just isn't necessary to have fun or make friends at OU, but those who have joined have enjoyed their experience, had a lot of fun, and made amazing friends. It just depends on the person.

Basically, if you are interested in going Greek, check out the options during Rush Week, but do it spring or winter rather than fall. This gives you the chance to make your own friends first before jumping into the Greek lifestyle. Many people, fearful they won't make friends, join a sorority or frat right away, which then becomes their entire, somewhat sheltered, social group. Simply put, at OU, social life doesn't revolve around the Greek system-wait until at least one quarter has gone by before deciding to rush. It's best to develop your own friendships and interests before making the decision.
