Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

When it comes to safety and security, it’s hard for many students to imagine a campus that is safer than OU. Though there are occurrences of crime like any other place, everyone agrees that OU is generally a safe campus for men and women. In addition to city police, OU has its own police department, so patrolling officers are a pretty common sight, which can be comforting when you’re walking home from a night class. Also, all of the residence halls require either a key or a swiped ID to enter, which is a reassurance that you will sleep safe and sound. And in the female-only dorms, all males must be accompanied by a resident upon entry.

While crimes do happen, from theft to an assault, using common sense is the best advice—don’t walk alone at night, avoid drunken confrontations, and lock your doors. Take advantage of the safety services OU has to offer; they’re there to keep you safe. With level-headed thinking, adherence to proper precautions, and a willingness to utilize the services provided to them, students are able to enjoy their college years at OU without worry or fear.

Be Aware and You Won't Have Problems

Crime is everywhere, just be smart and walk with others. I've personally never had a problem, but I know that if I did our campus PD would help and respond quickly.

Safety Is Their Policy.

The campus police are their when you need them, are quick to respond to any type of emergency. If a fire breaks out in a dorm they will show up within a short time frame and will make sure everyone is out and safe and will get to the bottom of things if need. Very friendly and willing to help and will chat with you to just talk and see how things are going.

The campus is lit up basically every where that you go at night. Also there are emergency booths and lights set up all around campus.
