Quick StatsBest Ways to Get Around Town
- Walk, walk, walk, and walk! (Driving is honestly a pain unless you need to get to the Ridges or Wal-Mart; in that case, just hop on the shuttle.)
How to Get to the Airport
- A cab ride to the airport costs approximately $90 per person.
- All Points Transportation provides transportation to and from the airport 24 hours a day. Call (740) 927-9778 for information and reservations.
College Prowler Take
Transportation is available on campus, but not really necessary. Most students get around campus just fine and rarely rely on taxis or buses to get anywhere (thankfully, the bars are so close to housing that there’s little drunk driving). Walking is the best way to get around campus, and students really only use their cars for groceries, quick errands, and so on. The campus is not very big, and even for students who live off campus, you are never that far from where you need to go. But, if transportation is needed, it’s available, which can be nice, especially the bus to and from Columbus. While it may not be needed to get around campus, public transportation is available and convenient. Getting outside of the city can require a little more planning. It’s not impossible, but you’ll have to call some service, most likely. Make sure to book reservations early and check online for full listings of all transportation services in and out of Athens.

The best thing about Ohio...
The best thing about Ohio University is that everything is within walking distance! There are some buses, but I have never had a need for them at all.

There is public transportation, but you don’t really need it. |

Public transportation wasn’t that...
Public transportation wasn’t that big at OU. Everything on campus is too close together to have to worry about that. The only time I used transportation was with my friends when we didn’t want to walk from one party to another. |

I know nothing about the public...
I know nothing about the public transportation in Athens because we walk everywhere. |

Everything is within walking...
Everything is within walking distance, except for Wal-Mart and Kroger and a few of the other stores out on East State Street. But everything you absolutely need to get to is within walking distance, especially classes, uptown, dorms, and off-campus housing. |
