Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Food at Ohio Wesleyan is hit or miss. At times, it can rival mom’s home cookin’, but other times, you swear they forgot the main ingredient—or to even cook it at all! The Hamilton-Williams Campus Center offers three meal times per day and many different food options. There is a small bakery that offers delicious fresh muffins, bagels, and every drink imaginable. Thomson (no “p”!) Residence Hall offers Thomson Convenience Store, a small but hugely overpriced convenience store. It does come in handy, though, as it offers Gatorade, Ramen noodles, and other midnight snacks that can be paid for with food points. Bishop Café is the number-one spot to go for lunch. Smith Dining Hall offers buffet-style dining and a brunch on the weekends, but the food is often less than satisfactory. Finally, the fraternities each pay their own chef to cook for them. Visitors are often welcome to meals at the frats, so if you are not in one, it pays to have friends who are!

The biggest complaint about campus dining is that students cannot use their food points at any off-campus restaurants. Students would like the option to take a break from campus food, but with the current policy, that is a pricey alternative. One cannot argue that for a small school, a good number of dining options do exist. The University is always trying to improve their selection, and even added a sushi bar in 2004 that has become very popular with students. No matter what you are craving, there should be a place that can suit your needs.

Everyone's Favorite Game: Monopoly

Chartwell's is the sole food vendor on-campus, and, like most monopolizing factions, takes full advantage of the situation. While serving staff is friendly and colorful most of the time, some individuals are kinda sketchy, or utterly lack inspiration to provide all but the most basic levels of service. They attempt to be creative in offering a variety of foods, but only if you go to the campus center. The quality of the food is lacking most of the time: only the sushi provided is of merit. The dollar-to-food point system is a complete scam, and the food itself is overpriced, especially if you go to the convenience store.

OWU Grub

Ohio Wesleyan food can vary from delicious to mediocre depending on where you go and when. Usually Smith Dining Hall during lunch is superior, however when dinner comes around (when Smith is most popular because of its location in the middle of the residential side of campus) the food options are sub par. You will certainly never go hungry here, except around 4-5pm when there are no food options during the school week. Also, if you are a picky eater, you will find less options when it comes to food, but if you keep your options open you'll be satisfied. This is no five star restaurant, it is college food. And Chartwells does a decent job at this.

Taste

There is a good variety of foods, but not all of them are very good. Lots have little taste. The food that tastes good is usually a lot more expensive. But, when it comes to college, this seems to be the norm...
