OWU does tend to focus on classical music, but if your son goes to professors and tells them what he's interested in, they can make it work. Dr. Griffin is in charge of the jazz band and he does a phenomenal job with it.

The Music Department offers a variety of courses in composition and applied music classes. There's a Jazz Band as well as a Classical Ensemble. There are classes that teach electronic music and various styles apart from the classics.

I would say the classical music program is definitely stronger than the rock and jazz genres at OWU. I have not heard much about many rock or jazz programs in the curriculum but as a violinist myself, I have experienced the classical aspect.

OWU has a strong music program, however it tends to lean towards jazz, classical rather than rock. However, many professors do try and teach you what you want to learn, especially in small programs such as music.

there is a jazz class that i heard is very interesting and fun. overall i would say the music program is pretty good
