Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Ohio Wesleyan students love to interact and be social with each other. There is constant intermingling between girls and guys that is only encouraged by the fact that there are no strict rules or visiting hours regulating the interaction. The male-to-female ratio constantly stays near the 50/50 mark, offering a good blend of guys and girls in every social situation. From the outside, one might be tempted to believe there is a big sex separation because of the all-male fraternities and the all-female hall, but the fact is that both of these areas are always mixed with a variety of people of both genders. This constant blend often results in casual hookups at parties, which is the predominant way the social scene works. Long-term relationships do occur as well, but they are less common between the students.

Everyone seems to fit in with some group on campus. There are so many people from such diverse backgrounds that students are assured to meet people they probably would have never gotten to know if it weren’t for Ohio Wesleyan bringing them together. The best way to meet people is just by hanging out in the different residence halls, in classes, and in the Hamilton-Williams Campus Center. Most students leave their doors open and welcome people just popping in whenever they want, and this is a great way to meet new people. The friends you make while at Ohio Wesleyan could become some of the greatest friends in your life, and some have even met their future spouse while at OWU.

There are good looking girls at owu but you have to search really hard. Also you have to expand your horizons as many of the good looking girls have boyfriends. Good luck finding one

Girls Lame

I try to connect consistently with people here on campus. I'd say 95% of the girls are either taken, crazy, or uninterested in dating at all. There are real cute girls, and a lot of them are nice, but get used to the phrase "I'd just like to be friends," or the old-time favorite "I just don't have feelings for you."

Let me amend that last statement: Get used to hearing those phrases if you're a super-nice guy who goes out of his way to be an understanding, compassionate gentleman. Also, get used to kowtowing to the complete jerk who inevitably ends up with the girl you like, no matter how much he treats her like dirt and sleeps around, for here, he is king.

Facts

Social Scene

It seems that everyone knows everyone else, which can be both a positive and a negative aspect of Ohio Wesleyan. The social scene can be as good as you make it. There are many different types of people, and it is not hard to find someone that you might like to get to know a bit more than the rest of your friends. Gossip travels fast, though, and it is next to impossible to avoid someone on such a small campus.

Hookups or Relationships?

There seem to be few serious relationships, as most students simply lack the time. Many hookups with friends are much more common at dance parties and room parties. That isn't to say that there aren't relationships, because some students are looking for more than just random hookups, and that option is available. Others would rather be open to experiencing many different types of people rather than just tying themselves down right away.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Parties are always a great place to meet other people. Also, guys and girls often meet in their small and intimate classes, student organizations, or just walking to class. Another great place to meet others is just hanging out in the Hamilton Williams Student Center, or the common lounge areas in the dormitories always offer a good place to chat.

Dress Code

The dress code all depends on where you are looking. There are many students that won't do much more than throw on sweatpants and a sweatshirt on their way to class, just wearing what is comfortable. Then there are students who follow the new fashion trends, and Lacoste, Banana Republic, J.Crew, and Ralph Lauren are quite common as daily wear among many students. Many Ohio Wesleyan students do care about their appearance and will spend time and money to look good.
