Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students feel safe when they are at Ohio Wesleyan, sometimes so safe that they don’t even take the easy precaution of locking the doors to their rooms. Even at 4 a.m., you can always see students walking around outside by the dorms. The campus police are constantly cruising around and walking through dorms, and they usually respond quickly to any complaints by students, especially when the welfare of students is involved. The school is small, the town is small, and most of the time, whether you are at a party or just walking around outside, you know many of the people around you. The lack of strangers gives OWU a feeling of community and a good sense that people are there to help out.

The only concerns that students seem to ever have are not with the safety on campus, but with people from the local town of Delaware. Some folks that live there are not exactly fond of the 2,000 or so students that inhabit their town. The University takes strides to make sure that the campus community feels very secure by having keycard-only access to dorms and emergency phones placed around campus that alert the campus police. In addition, they offer free escorts at night across campus, regardless of what state of mind or being you are in. The Public Safety and Campus Security department is mostly a hard-working group that keeps the students’ security in mind 24 hours a day. The goal is to allow students to feel like they are safe and at home. Most of the time, this is the case.

Pretty Safe

There are some things that happen with townies, but overall, it's not unsafe. You don't feel sketchy walking alone across campus in the dark.

High Feelings of Safety

I feel safe pretty much wherever I go. Sure we got the rape talks and rape whistles, but I've never felt the need to be afraid while on campus. As long as we live smart, we're fine. The only incidents that have occurred on campus have mostly been students being stupid.
