Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Many students, if given the power to change one thing about OWU would use it to pick up the entire campus and move it to another location. Sadly, most of the townsfolk would welcome it! The “town-gown” relationship is not friendly and often can cause negative feelings. Delaware, Ohio is not a typical college town. When you arrive, it can be described as a cute, little town with a community feel, but the small-town appeal wears off quickly. Delaware is simply too small to have enough exciting things going on to entertain a bunch of college students. It does have all the necessities including a coffeeshop, all the fast food restaurants, a bunch of banks, and a movie theater, but beyond that, entertaining yourself in Delaware is left up to events on campus. Luckily, Columbus, Ohio, the nation’s 13th largest city, is less than a half an hour away. It isn’t uncommon for upperclassmen to drive down to Columbus once a week to go shopping, have dinner, or just to hang out at Ohio State University.

Students will probably never describe the town of Delaware as dynamic or exciting, but the fact does remain that it is a small, safe community that most students feel very comfortable walking around in, even at 3 a.m. Those coming to OWU from large cities might have a tough time transitioning to Delaware’s dull atmosphere. The town is making strides to become more dynamic by adding new cafés and restaurants that will entice students to get more active in the community. One thing is for sure, most students do not come to Ohio Wesleyan because of Delaware!

Slow by Easy

Delaware is a quaint little town with the main street being Sandusky. For the most part, it's a fairly easy going town and the town people are generally nice people. The police aren't so much (at least to college students) but the fire department works very well. The shops in town are pretty interesting. I won't give away too much but there is definitely a good selection of shops to look into. The restaurants are all pretty good (some better than others) but don't expect to go clothes shopping here. You'll most likely want to shop in Columbus which is about twenty minutes away by car. Delaware is a small town. I do mean really small. But it has a slow pace and it's fairly easy to navigate.

Keeps It Interesting

For partying, the same old fraternities and bars can get dull. But there's a lot to do on campus--student activity groups are very involved. New shops are always opening and closing, so there's always somewhere to look if you want to get something. And we're close to Columbus and Polaris, so if you have a car you're in luck.
