Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nightlife revolves around on-campus parties and the two popular bars in town. Although there is not much to do in Delaware if you are not 21, it isn’t hard to find a place to party almost every night. All-campus dance parties at the fraternities are always very popular, as are smaller nightly gatherings in the rooms of the residence halls. Being in such a small town, partying options are very limited unless you travel to Columbus. There are always a few options to hang out and party, whether it be in rooms, fraternities, bars, or at off-campus houses being rented by OWU students. Almost every week, there is some campus-wide party that can attract a few hundred students throughout the night and be a great time until three or four in the morning. Often, students find themselves traveling in groups around campus from party to party throughout the night.

Campus police are sure to show up at almost every large event just to check to make sure there aren’t any illegal activities, and they won’t hesitate to break up parties. Noise can be a problem, especially in the dorm rooms. If you are smart about it, you can party and drink in your room without being bothered by campus police, as long as you aren’t disturbing your neighbors. Throughout the year, students will experience all-campus dance parties, theme parties, drinking fests, dorm parties, and simply hanging out with friends into all hours in the morning.

Frats Over Clubs

The parties here are mainly done by fraternities/house parties. These are pretty easy to get into and are very nearby to the university. These offer free drinks and are full of people that you know. They also are pretty easy on underage drinkers because the safety officers here are pretty lenient. The clubs etc are pretty strict on underage drinking and you wouldnt have fun at them. The fraternity parties and on campus parties are the best.

Few and Far Between

The campus itself has scheduled parties at the frats and other houses on campus. They normally involve themes and can be very good or very bad. There are a couple bars but only one lets you in if you're under 21. Overall not a big party school though you could find it if you looked.

Clancey’s Pub

Clancy’s is a local bar often favored by locals. It offers very cheap drinks and live music by local bands. Besides the Backstretch, Clancy’s is the only other bar that OWU students ever go to on a regular basis.

The Backstretch Bar

The “Stretch” is the favorite place for nightlife in Delaware for students. It often offers live music and many student specials throughout the week. It is always a good place to find something going on every night of the week.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

There is a coffeeshop downtown called The Mean Bean Caffeine Lounge that you can find students at once in a a while, but it is definitely not a big hangout. Your best bet would be the dorms, fraternity houses, or off-campus houses.
