Best Places to Find a Spot The Welch Hall lot has spaces throughout the day, but gets filled up in the evening. The streets near the SLUs also have numerous spaces, and Roy Rike Field, although much further away, is usually open.
Good Luck Getting a Spot Here Any of the dorm parking lots after 9 p.m. become filled up, and it is luck of the draw whether or not you can sneak in.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Every student is theoretically allowed to bring their car, but they are not allowed to park on campus unless they have a permit. Juniors and seniors always have the opportunity to purchase permits in the first couple of weeks of each semester. Freshmen and sophomores are only offered the leftovers. The cost of a parking permit is $65, which allows you to park in any lot if you are an upperclassman and other specified lots if you are a freshman or sophomore. You are guaranteed a space if you have a permit, but there is no guarantee that it will be in the lot of your residence hall. Recently, there has been a big crackdown on illegal parking, which has freed up a lot of spaces and made it easier for those who have paid for their permits. There will be times when students just cannot find a space in the lot and they will have to park on the street.

Students definitely do not need a car at OWU, as all of their needs can be fulfilled within easy walking distance of the campus. It is very valuable to have it, though, as trips to Columbus can be an exciting thing to do on the weekends, and it can be helpful if you are involved with sports or activities that travel off campus for events or competition. Having a car is convenient to travel quickly around town or to Wal-Mart to pick up things, and if students do decide to bring theirs, it will get used, although it isn’t a necessity.

Availabilty Is Terrible

If you are a junior or senior, you get the best parking and shouldn't have a problem finding a space that is close. Freshmen and sophomores, however, can rarely find parking because it is always taken up, and the parking is really far away.

Be Ready for a Fight

Parking is pretty bad on campus. Unless you have a B pass (which is upperclassmen) or an A pass, be ready to drive all over campus for a parking spot. Parking as a Sophomore and as a Freshman can be quite the assignment all in itself.

Lack of Public Transportation Makes Students Dependent on Those Students With Cars.

The lack of public transportation leaves students with no choice but to find entertainment around the Delaware area or be dependent on students with cars. There is no public transportation to Columbus other than the Data Bus which runs at odd hours (mostly when students have classes) and only on the weekdays. The cheapest cab ride is $50 to Columbus and other than that, students have to ask each other for rides every time they want to get off campus.

Students with cars have to pay a parking pass fee and any cars parked without a pass are fined. So overnight visitors have to find space on the street, which are usually full anyway.

Getting a Parking Permit

It is very easy to get a parking permit. Juniors and seniors can purchase permits in the first two weeks of each semester. The process is quick and easy, as long as you have your car registration information. For freshmen and sophomores, the process is a bit trickier, as there is a lottery determined by how many spaces are still available. There is still a chance for first- or second-year students to get a permit, and even if they don’t, it is simple to park on the street in close vicinity to all the dorms.
