The People Are Nice

The closeness of the campus community and the availability of professors are definitely huge pluses for OWU. People are really warm and friendly at OWU and it leaves you feeling at home and comfortable in no time.

Challenge

I received a fairly decent amount of scholarship but it wasn´t anywhere near as easy as it should be. I had to fill endless forms, send them by scnas then by courrier. Had to send letters in order to ask for more scholarship and still now, the process is somewhat difficult to understand.

OWU in General

Ohio Wesleyan University is a small liberal arts college that offers a range of subjects, each taught by great professors. Registration process is simple, although not always you can get the courses you originally wanted to.

There is a lot of homework, tests, quizzes and projects that allow students to increase their knowledge and even start some independent study.

Keeps It Interesting

For partying, the same old fraternities and bars can get dull. But there's a lot to do on campus--student activity groups are very involved. New shops are always opening and closing, so there's always somewhere to look if you want to get something. And we're close to Columbus and Polaris, so if you have a car you're in luck.

Huge Diversity

Ohio Wesleyan University has one of the highest amounts of international students of liberal arts schools. There are many Asian and African-American students and a few European students. There is also 50% Ohio students and %50 out-of-state students. People at OWU are amazingly diverse. I know people who have never even been out of their own state before and I know some people who have spent their whole lives flying on planes. People are diverse in backgrounds, personality, experience and activities.

Amazing Experience

I am confident in saying how satisfied I am with my overall experience at OWU. I not only have a solid group of friends here but I have an even greater amount of people to rely on here. In my freshman year I decided to go Greek and it was the best choice. I am now very engaged on campus and very motivated to do my best. I don't think I've had one professor that does not want to help me succeed. All of the people I know at OWU are unique in background, interest and personality and I think that is the most notable characteristic of OWU.

Diverse

We got about 10% international students on campus, which makes the university very diverse. Professors are excellent. Residents in town are friendly too, the cars will actually stop for students on the street.

Depends on How You Look at It

A lot of students dislike owu because of the administration, which is sometimes warranted. However, the school is much more then bad reslife policies etc. The students and especially the professors make the school. Something almost any student here can agree on is how wonderful our professors are, they genuinely care about their students and are extremely helpful both in and outside of class (especially those that live in delaware).

The Nightlife Here Is AWESOME

If you havent been to OWU, the nightlife here is awesome. Go over to the "hill" and you'll be sure to find parties that go way into the morning. Awesome house parties, plenty of beer and women. Theme parties are also a big thing here. You'll have no problem finding a party Wednesday-Saturday thats for sure.

I am a bit stunned that OWU...

I am a bit stunned that OWU received such a low grade for diversity. It was one of the biggest reasons why I came here, actually. The international student population, not to mention the American minority population, are very large in relation to the school. It provides a nice oasis of culture in an otherwise very homogenous region.

I wouldn’t trade this experience...

I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything in the world. Hopefully, my brother’s going to follow in my footsteps and come here, too. I enjoy my winter and summer vacations a lot, but every time I come back to Delaware, I don’t feel like leaving school—ever!

Each year at OWU gets better and better, and I wouldn’t ever choose to be anywhere else.

Public transportation is seemingly...

Public transportation is seemingly nonexistent. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bus, and I maybe saw a taxi once. Basically, if you have a car, bring it!

I know this will come as a huge...

I know this will come as a huge shock to all you college applicants out there, but it is possible to get drugs just about anywhere. Ohio Wesleyan University is no exception to this rule, but it is relatively low-key here and has rarely gone beyond marijuana, to the best of my knowledge.

How someone views Greek life...

How someone views Greek life depends on if they joined it or not. I did join a sorority, and I absolutely love it. I would not know what to do if I did not. Joining a sorority or fraternity gives you an instant social life, which is not to say that you cannot have one if you do not join a Greek organization, as I have many friends who decided not to join.

There always seems to be a party...

There always seems to be a party on campus (especially fall semester, when the party animals haven’t failed out yet). If one of the fraternity houses isn’t throwing one (rare), you’ll find something at a student’s off-campus house.

There is definitely a party scene...

There is definitely a party scene both on and off campus, but it is not overwhelming. Students do party, but a lot of people choose to do so in smaller groups. Fraternities are popular, and so are off-campus student parties. Most parties are all students. There are a couple of very popular bars in town; The Backstretch is probably the most popular for students. There aren’t any really good clubs in town, though.

Parties on campus rock. Seriously. I’ve thrown parties and gone to parties in places that parties were so illegal. We could have gotten into so much trouble (underage consumption, unregistered party, just to name a few), but it was the time of our lives! I love partying just about anywhere on campus, because just about anywhere on campus, you’ll run into someone who wants to party, too.

Varsity sports are a much smaller...

Varsity sports are a much smaller aspect of life at OWU than at your average high school or college. The big sport is soccer, with lacrosse at a close second. Most sporting events are well-attended, but very rarely does it acheive the attendance of a big campus event.

Ohio Wesleyan is like any campus—there are definitely good-looking students. It’s definitely possible to meet some great people!

We have a pretty diverse campus,...

We have a pretty diverse campus, with international students making up almost 10 percent of the student population. There aren’t a lot of Europeans, but quite a few students from Asia and Africa.

OWU has the best dorms of any...

OWU has the best dorms of any school I looked at. I really like that all grades are mixed together in housing, and that everyone mostly lives on campus all four years.

The restaurants off campus are...

The restaurants off campus are enjoyable. The Brown Jug is a popular place, along with Hamburger Inn. There is also any type of restaurant within 20 minutes of campus. Chipotle nearby seems to be the most popular place to eat off campus.

The food at these places varies...

The food at these places varies from Mexican to buffet-style American food to subs, pizzas, and sometimes soul food. The main food court at Ham-Wil usually has a circulation of Indian, Chinese, American and other eclectic cuisines. Compared to my freshman year, I would say there has definitely been an improvement in the varieties of food that you get on campus.

Students would like to see Public...

Students would like to see Public Safety keep a more watchful eye over the stretch from the library to the dorms. However, I personally always feel safe on campus no matter the time of day. Being such a small school, a sense of community is present and violence is not really something you often think of.
