Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The three top ways to get around Delaware and to your classes are walking, walking, and walking. Public transportation is virtually nonexistent besides the occasional and expensive taxi cab ride to or from the airport. This isn’t all bad, as everything necessary for a good campus life is easily within walking distance, but if you want to go to Columbus or travel to other cities, you had better be friends with somebody who has a vehicle on campus! There is a bus route that takes students to local malls, but it runs at odd times and is not very popular with students.

If you plan to do a lot of traveling while at college, you better bring a car to Delaware because there aren’t many other ways to get around. The University usually will arrange for vans to take students to and from the airport at the beginning and end of long breaks, but that is about the extent of the public transportation available. The University does own a few vans that can be rented by students to use as shuttles at their events or to travel, but there is a cost involved. It is important to make sure you plan ahead if you need a ride from the airport because a taxi can run more than 50 dollars for the 30-minute trip. If you get together a group of students and rent a van, you can cut the costs dramatically and save some valuable OWU spending money.

No Need for Cars.

Unless you're leaving town, you don't need a car, and there usually isn't a reason to leave town unless you want to go to the mall. Then you just grab a friend with a car. Parking is a bit annoying, especially this year, but a whole dorm and it's lot was shut down for renovations and the freshman class is unusually large, so I understand. I just wish the new kids would learn how to park...they seriously didn't pay attention in drivers-ed. The cost of a parking pass is affordable, especially compared to other schools in the area ($100 tops), and street parking is everywhere, and it's safe to park on the street. Just make sure to move your car every three days.

Campus Shuttle Probably Best Option

There are taxis and a campus shuttle and probably other options at OWU, but no one really knows much about any of it. I don't know how hard it would be to find out this information, but I'm sure it wouldn't be very difficult. I see the campus shuttle around a lot, and there are pamphlets at the student help desk about it, so I'm guessing that would be a nice option.

Yuck

There really is no cheap way to get anywhere quickly unless you have a car. To get to columbus, you must take at least two buses, the DATA and the COTA. It is also really expensive to take a cab from Columbus to Delaware or from Delaware to Columbus.
