Everything's in Walking Distance; Why Do You Need to Park?

I had a car while I was at OSU, but I rarely used it. I rode a bycycle from one end of town to the other without issue. There is rarely a time where I had to ride from one end of town to the other, but it was nice to know that I could. Parking could be better, but I would prefer a better looking campus rather than additional parking lots. Ride a bike!

It's a Drinking School With a Football Problem

Plenty of alchohal to be had; the strip, house parties, tailgating, the lake, etc. There's also various different drugs around campus if that's what you're into; I did a little experimenting when I was there.

50 Nat'l Championships; Need I Say More?

Facilities are top notch, teams are top notch, 50 Nat'l Championships total (only a couple other schools can claim more than that).

Greek Life!

Greek life at OSU is great. Lots of parties, but they also do a lot of good things for the community and campus. You don't have to be in one, but definetly get involved with something!

Very Safe!

At Oklahoma State you never have to worry about your saftey on campus. You can sign up to be informed anytime a crime happens via text messages. We have freindly police who take care of problems quickly. All around campus there are emergency buttons to press that will get police to the spot instantly. Also, the town of Stillwater is a very tight knit community that hardly ever has a problem. It is a very safe and welcoming town to current and new students!

Fan Support at Okstate

At Oklahoma State we have many activities for fans. The thing we are best known are our Paddle People of OSU. The students of OSU love football.

Oklahoma Weather

As I have been born and raised in Oklahoma, I have learned that you never know what the weather has in store for you. For instance, yesterday was over 100 degrees and today is around 60 degrees.

Weather Is Nuts in Oklahoma

It can be 110 degrees with no clouds in the sky and all of a sudden it can poor down rain for 5 minutes get chilly and then heat up all in the span of an hour.

Pretty Strict

The police really crack down on drinking. It is very possible to drink and not get in trouble but I wouldn't recommend it because the majority of frat parties get busted. If you must drink go out in the country. They are very strict in the dorms. Even the possession of alcohol can get you written up and will get you in trouble. Basically don't drink unless you are willing to face the consequences. There are plenty of other ways to have fun.

Ever Changing Weather

The weather in Oklahoma can range from freezing to above one hundred all throughout the year. Students can see all weather types in a given school year. It is often best to carry an umbrella for the unpredicted rain storm. The heat and humidity in Oklahoma can be drastic, as can the cold. Many students find it best to check the weather each morning as the weather is everchanging and unpredicatable.

Extremely Hot Climate

Especially this year with record-breaking temperatures, the weather makes it very difficult when you have to walk around campus. You really have to plan ahead.

Osu-Okc Cafeteria

The dining hall is very big and I like this. The menu has a nice variety if you are wanting different. I only go if I am running on a small amount of time. This is the best place and the closet eatery by far. The food can be healthy or greasy I manage to find what I am looking for. Stop in when ou are in Okc. Okla.

Greek Life

We have an awesome Greek Life. There's always something involved, everyone is always interconnected and very friendly. We have a top system at OSU and there's always parties and date parties going on. There's also a good connection between the houses and with non-greeks.

Weather

Its not very cold for very long but when it is, it snows. And we always get snow days.

Weather

The weather is always changing. When the snow storm came the side walks were barely cleaned off for the students to have a successful walk to class without hurting themselves. It was very annoying because it was freezing and we had to watch every single step we took. Class were barely cancelled when surrounding schools or even the public schools were closed, we'd still have class!!

Parking on Campus

OMG... I absolutely hate the parking on campus. There is never enough car spots for all the people that live on campus. I dread leaving campus because I know when I get back that I have to park a mile away from where I live. The campus police are always giving tickets to practically anyone which is kind of silly because in a day I would say I see about 20+ tickets given to people.

Small Town, USA

Stillwater is a very small town in Oklahoma, so theres not a whole lot to do unless you decide to go to Tulsa or Oklahoma City, but there are always on campus events going on.

We Are Doing Fine

We have one of the quickest campus police response times in the nation. A student is never more than 100 feet away from a button that calls emergency services. I have no problem walking around campus at any time. There was a shooting a few weeks back and in no time at all the police had it under control. Nobody died or was even seriously wounded. It's a very safe place, and I feel very safe on campus.

ORANGE POWER!!!!

Athletics at Oklahoma State are quite important because it's what helps bring the community together. We have the Colvin Center and below the Gallagher-Iba Arena there is a workout facility for the athletes. Football Homecoming is considered "America's Greatest Homecoming Celebration" and on Friday's before a football game or the day of a game all you would see is a sea of orange. Even if our teams lose, the fans still cheer on the team for the good work and support them for the next game as if they never lost.

Living on Campus

As an incoming freshman, Oklahoma State requires that you live on campus in one of their many on-campus housing districts. While each provides a different experience, mine was neither fantastic nor awful. That being said one year was more than enough for me.

There Are Many Sports

Football is crazy around here. everyone is decked in orange with painted bodies. I haven't been to any basketball yet but I am guessing it is going to get loud too. school spirit is very strong. We are said to bleed orange for the rest of our lives.

Athletics Are Supported Well

OSU has good support for their athletics. Students seem to love it.

Snow and Sun

If we've got snow, OSU is not the place to go. I may not be from up North, but OSU could stand to take some lessons from them on how to deal with the weather down here. Sidewalk clearing is laughable at best, and putting salt down underneath the first half inch layer of ice buried under snow makes about as much sense as the purple people eater. I understand the difficulty behind this, but it makes it so so hard to get to class effectively. To top things off, when everything melts the salt remains to make our trip about as slippery as the ice capades days prior.

Sunshine, however, is another matter entirely. You want to see activity? We have plenty of it. Honestly, I had never expected so much during the heat of the summer, but there they were.

Parking

Parking is difficult to find at any college. If you continually find yourself being late to class due to a lack of parking; you should probably turn to a more reasonable form of transportation such as walking or bicycling. Also it's a good idea to try and arrive alittle early to every class especially at the beginning of the semester just to ensure you have time to find a space and are not late.

Infinite Diversity in Decent Combinations

On campus transportation can get you where you are going in fairly short order. The on campus buses stop at predetermined stops every seven minutes, shorter depending on which route you are taking. The off campus buses tend to have pick up at their destinations every 30 minutes or so to a variety of locations, such as the local walmart, some of the apartment complexes, the local movie theater, etc. As far as long distance transportation, there is a bus schedule for students commuting between OSU-Stillwater and OSU-Tulsa at fairly convienent points thoroughout the day. It is $7 one way (which is very inexpensive, given that it about an hour and 15 minute trek) and provides a much more convienent method of transportation for students (like me) who have to commute in from Tulsa more than once a week.
