Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Very rarely can you find a student who will admit to taking or using drugs other than alcohol. However, that isn’t to say that drug use doesn’t happen on ODU’s campus. Students may be tight-lipped about it, but in the darkness of dorms or in the privacy of their own apartments, students do indulge. Alcohol is the most obvious activity, since every Friday night students crowd 42nd Street looking for parties and for booze, but marijuana is most definitely the drug of choice on campus. Practically everyone knows someone who smokes, and, despite their reticence, they probably do as well.

Because of college pressures, a few have been known
to snort Ritalin or Adderall. But none of this activity is present on campus. Students don’t come to class inebriated, and practically never does drug scene talk infiltrate academics—however, this, of course, depends on the type of people you hang with. Virtually all of the students here are good at keeping their night life separate from their academic one, and there is no pressure for non-users to start.

Drugs, everywhere

After my first year at ODU, Ive seen it all. Marijuana, alcohol, Ecstasy, shrooms, DMT, cocaine, etc. Though the harder drugs are not as common, Marijuana is the easiest thing to get on campus. There are so many dealers that the dealers constantly text/bother people to buy from them because there is so much competition. I saw my roommate go from being a fresh student who had never smoked before into a complete pot head.

Drug Scene

Typically, no one deals with drugs at this school. However, there was that one incident where a couple of students that lived near the campus were busted for shipping marijuana to their address last spring.
