Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Old Dominion itself does an okay job at providing shuttles for students. ODU has expanded its shuttle route to include off-campus locations like Kroger and MacArthur Mall, and the campus-route shuttles run every 15 minutes or so. They are slow, but they run until 11:15 p.m. As mostly a commuter school, there is very little demand for a huge army of buses. Luckily, every student at ODU gets free access to the buses if they simply have an ODU student ID. They are able to use the Hampton Roads Transit buses as well, which have a more expansive route than ODU’s Blue Route.

Most students complain of having to wait for the buses, seeing as they don’t make frequent stops, but that’s just a negative in the packaged deal that is public transportation. Still, public transportation may be the only way some students are able to get around. Although it may take a week or so to learn the routes and such of the buses, when that’s taken care of, life on campus without a car becomes that much easier.

ODU Bus Service

ODU has a bus service that is runninig all the time. It does a big look around the campus. On the weekends some of the buses go to Wal-mart for those who do not have a car. It is a great idea especially when it is raining and you are leaving the library with you laptop to go to your dorm which is a good 15 min walk. However, ODU is wasting a lot of money in this service because they are only used at night and on weekends.

Not Good for Urban Area

I never know what the bus schedules are or where they stop. The monorail on campus has been unfinished for 15 years. The new light rail train's in Norfolk closest stop is about 2 miles away from campus. The late night safe service is very good.
