College Prowler Take
Old Dominion itself does an okay job at providing shuttles for students. ODU has expanded its shuttle route to include off-campus locations like Kroger and MacArthur Mall, and the campus-route shuttles run every 15 minutes or so. They are slow, but they run until 11:15 p.m. As mostly a commuter school, there is very little demand for a huge army of buses. Luckily, every student at ODU gets free access to the buses if they simply have an ODU student ID. They are able to use the Hampton Roads Transit buses as well, which have a more expansive route than ODU’s Blue Route. Most students complain of having to wait for the buses, seeing as they don’t make frequent stops, but that’s just a negative in the packaged deal that is public transportation. Still, public transportation may be the only way some students are able to get around. Although it may take a week or so to learn the routes and such of the buses, when that’s taken care of, life on campus without a car becomes that much easier.

ODU has its own shuttles that run pretty well. They take you around campus and to surrounding neighborhoods, and they also have ones on the weekends that take students to and from the mall.

Don’t ever take a bus around here...
Don’t ever take a bus around here unless you know its schedule—on point. You will get so frustrated if you miss a bus, because its not like they make frequent stops. |

The only public transportation...
The only public transportation I've ever used is the shuttle that ODU provided, which was extremely helpful and convenient my freshman year. Other than that, the HRT seems creepy, and my female friends always have weird stalker experiences with cabs, so I wouldn't suggest those either. If you don't have a car, find someone who does!

Most Prefer Longboards or Bikes
A
There are options for transportation. There's an ODU bus that circles around campus, as well as the Hampton Roads Transit, but I don't recommend that because there's usually some strange people on board. One very nice thing is that there is and escort service. If you need a ride to a party, you can just call the services and get a free taxi ride. Otherwise, most people on campus either longboard or ride bikes. Everything is pretty close!

I don’t like the public...
I don’t like the public transportation here. There are no cabs. Well, not enough for my taste, I’m from New York. |
