For the size of this university, the percentage of student athletes is ridiculously high. Almost everyone is a recruited athlete. That's the only way anyone can afford to go here.

The only reason anyone has a car is to go shopping, go off campus, or just to go off campus. It comes in super handy, but parking is a bit of an issue. I don't have a car, but I rely on people who do have cars so I can go to Walmart and places like that.

Okay, so the campus is small enough you can walk anywhere you need to go so you don't need to drive to class. The parking lots for Brown and Bennett halls are farrrrr too small. There is no such thing as finding a parking spot during the week and if you do, don't you dare move your car or you'll lose your spot in less than 10 minutes if that. So you basically have to park on the other side of campus because we recently got in trouble for parking on the local streets because a lot of people were disrespectful and parked in front of driveways. Parking is free, but getting a good spot takes luck. If you park in a visitors parking or in staff parking during work hours, you are guaranteed a ticket. I don't even have a car and I understand that parking is a major problem here.

It's a small school and I like that about it. The classes are small, the professors know you personally, and help is easily found. It is hard to find somewhere to fit in though when 90% of the campus are super religious student athletes. I have found a few friends I enjoy the company of, but it wasn't easy. Please dear god what ever you do don't take the theatre scholarship. If you like theatre, you will enjoy it much more if you aren't on a scholarship for it. They will own your soul and you will hate it. Guaranteed.
Also, if you come visit or something, I dare you to drop your cup. You will get a round of applause. It's tradition. If it's uncoordinated and funny enough, you may even get a standing ovation.

So it's pretty much non existent. There is nothing on campus, it's a dry campus and people for the most part respect that. Everyone goes to the off campus houses, or to KU in Lawrence to party. If there's ever anything going on, which it does happen occasionally if there's a sports win or a holiday, it'll happen on the weekend at the off campus house of a senior on that team.

I didn't have to do anything special, but I also enrolled super late. They were super encouraging and welcomed me to be a Biology major. I have yet to meet with my Biology major advisor, but my professor is super awesome, knows his stuff, you just have to pay attention, put effort into understanding, and show enthusiasm. There is nothing unusual or out of the way you have to do to be a Bio major.

Nothing is ever happening. Ever. If we want to do something, we have to drive to Lawrence or Kansas City or some other place.

People always offer rides to others if you don't have a car.

Great parking, no permit cost and small campus makes it easy to park anywhere on campus and not have to walk forever.

Your advisor will get you an internship that's amazing and gives you great information and experience in that field.
College Freshman 2013-05-14T03:21:58Z

Health & Safety:

Guys & Girls:
There are many clichés of interests around campus.

Ottawa is a small town. The options available are either nice and expensive or not very appealing.

Football is probably the highest profile sport. The college has conference wins and is highly thought of in the conference.

Guys & Girls:
Ottawa university is a pretty small campus so both the guys and girls are very friendly and it seems like everyone knows one another. A lot of the students are athletes and are interested in sports. The dorms are also very social and welcoming.

I am extremely happy with the human services program at Ottawa University. If I could do it all over again I would have gone to Ottawa University sooner instead of transferring in. I feel like the classes are really preparing me for a career to work with people and better their lives. My career goal is to work with a non-profit agency focusing on world hunger or poverty. I am not concerned with finding a job because I feel like I am well prepared and my major will place me in an internship. Each human services major is placed in at least 8 hours of internship and they are often hired by the place they have interned at.
College Sophomore 2013-03-03T22:26:49Z
There is a lot of tough science classes, but usually the students in the program are interested in science so it isn't as bad as it could be.
College Sophomore 2013-03-03T22:24:42Z
A lot of people partake in parties, alcohol, and drugs on this campus. There are rules that strictly don't allow it on school grounds, but students still do it anyways and face consiquences if found with the substances. However, these policies aren't strict enough because students still partake in them.
College Sophomore 2013-03-03T22:22:24Z
It's easy. You just apply for the college and state that your declared major is Exercise Science.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
