The computer system on campus is very convenient and resourceful for the students of Penn State Altoona. There are public computers placed in almost every building except the gym and theater. There are computer labs in the Hawthorn Building, the library, Learning Resources Center, Smith Building, and Cypress Building, as well as all the residence halls. The Slep Student Center has three public computers because most people bring a personal computer to study here.
However, overall, the need for personal computers is very low at Penn State Altoona. Many students do not have their own computers and find no real need for them outside of their music downloading capabilities. Using the computers on campus is convenient, and the labs in almost all of the buildings have attendants that will help you if there is a problem. Most of the computers PCs and run on Windows Vista, but there are five Macintosh desktops in the Hawthorn Building that are equipped with all the Macintosh software programs.
