The weather in Altoona is very temperamental. August and September are still fairly warm, but when October and November arrive, so does the snow. December is a big snow month, but luckily, Penn State Altoona students don't have to see half of it because they’re home on break. Most professors live close to the University and walk to classes, so if you cannot get to a class because of the weather and they can, do not expect them to feel sorry for you.
During the spring semester, the weather fluctuates even more. It could very well be snowing one day and 78 degrees the next. The most necessary piece of equipment while in Altoona will probably be your senses—the humidity and sudden change in temperature will let you know about impending weather. Most students usually carry a jacket with them just in case a beautiful day turns into a flash flood, which does happen.
