College Prowler Take

The consensus is that Pepperdine’s computer labs are at least satisfactory for most students, although having a personal computer is more convenient. Interestingly, most students do use the labs at least once in a while, even if they have their own personal computers. More than a few students have found using the school’s computers to be more expedient than doing their work at home on their PCs. Meanwhile, the Internet connection in the dorms provides enough speed and reliability to satisfy even the more technologically savvy students.

Yes, it is nice to have your own computer. Often, especially around midterms or finals, the computer lab can become deafening with obnoxious, procrastinating banter. And yes, having a laptop with wireless access is especially preferable, as it allows you to take advantage of the University’s wireless network. But at Pepperdine you can almost always find an available computer to use, whether in the library, the Writing Center, or, if it’s going to be an all-nighter, the 24-hour computer lab in the HAWC.

Most people have their own computers. We have lots of labs; just make sure you leave plenty of time to do a paper in a lab in case it’s full, which happens especially during finals.

You should definitely bring your own computer. You can work in the labs, but it’s a pain. I strongly suggest you bring your own. I brought my laptop, and I live on it.

Computer labs can get crowded towards final and midterm time. Most people have their own computer, and I find it to be the most convenient way to go. But, I do use the computer labs from time to time.
