College Prowler Take
Pepperdine’s beautiful campus is maintained in such a way that everything is white, immaculate, and uniform at all times—no dingy bricks or dirty ivory in sight! And what the architecture lacks in diversity and history, it makes up for with singleness of purpose and a calming, sterilized unity. Students seem enthralled with the dorms, the computer labs, and most of the other facilities—although there is some disagreement regarding the quality of the workout amenities. One area in which Pepperdine could still improve itself is its single undergraduate library. Technologically and ergonomically, it is an impressive little building. Why, to the naked eye, Payson Library houses as many computers as it does books! Therein lies the problem, however. Most of the relatively few books and journals Pepperdine does keep on hand are woefully outdated; the shelves seem filled with fragile, dusty tomes donated to the University 40 years ago by its more fragile and dusty alumni. Thus, students needing research materials are bound to find themselves commuting to UCLA’s libraries, or else restricting their research to Pepperdine’s online databases.

The campus has nice, new facilities. It’s a small school, so you don’t always have all the amenities of a big school, but it’s quaint, and the natural scenery is incredible. Pepperdine is on a hill that overlooks the gorgeous Pacific Ocean. You can’t beat the view here. |

The facilities are all very good. The computer labs are great, and they keep up with the latest computer technology. The athletic facilities are all good. The weight room is a little on the small side, but they have all the appropriate equipment. The track is kept in good condition, and the tennis courts are amazing. |

The facilities are very nice and pretty much new, for the most part. The gym is kind of small, but it is free. There is a pool and hot tub, too. The library is kind of small, but then there is also the Law Library on top of the hill. |

The weight room is sadly small....
The weight room is sadly small. The buildings are nice, but after four years of stucco, you tend to crave some sort of architectural variation. The HAWC and the Sandbar are very comfortable and usually filled with people to spend time with. The Sandbar looks like a spot from Chuck E. Cheese’s, but it’s all a matter of taste, right? |

Everything but the athletic center...
Everything but the athletic center is fabulous and glossy. The gym and weight room are rat-infested, ready to fall down, unsafe, and without enough equipment. Join a gym if you’re a gym-rat. |
FactsWhat To Do on Campus
For diversions between classes, Pepperdine's campus offers people-watching and coffee-drinking opportunities, and for the more athletically motivated, it has a pool, tennis courts, a gym, and a newly-improved weight room. Or, students can head to the HAWC student center for a game of pool or ping pong.
Favorite Things To Do
Men's basketball games are somewhat popular, and student plays and musicals are usually a big hit, too (probably because, at such a small school, everyone on campus knows at least one of the starring thespians). For the most part, though, students are looking to get away from campus in the evenings, if they possibly can.
Movie Theater on Campus
- None, although SGA provides a weekly free movie night in the Smothers Theatre.
Coffeehouse on Campus
- Café Fresca
- The Coffee House
