College Prowler Take
Students appear united in their opinions on the “guys and girls” issue. To sum up the quotes, as well as the general opinion on campus: (a) the girls are hot, (b) so are the guys, but (c) a lot of them are gay, and (d) no one dates. Students tend to conform, in terms of style and personality, and walking around Pepperdine is a little like watching a movie or attending a fashion show. Tight clothing and high heels predominate, and accessories bearing the names of venerable fashion avatars are a mainstay. Not to be outdone, even male students tote their books around in Coach and Louis Vuitton bags. Incidentally, such metrosexual behavior, along with the conservative environment that discourages explicit references to one’s preferences, makes it hard to tell who’s gay and who’s not. Regardless, most students maintain that the gay population at Pepperdine is extraordinarily high. Good luck, dear reader, finding a more attractive campus than Pepperdine’s undergraduate school, Seaver College. The girls are otherworldly, and the guys, well, most of them look pretty good, too. What’s more, some of these young men and women have personalities and are even pleasant to talk to! For what more could one ask?

Just wanted to point out that most...
Just wanted to point out that most people here are not surfers and do not surf. It was extremely difficult to get six shortboarders for the team when I was there. However, if you are a surfer, you couldn't ask for a better place to go to school. I was in the water practically everyday before class. I would say the scene is more ripped jeans/ vintage tee for the dudes, and the comments on the girls have been spot-on as far as stereotypes go. |

I feel like the people from...
I feel like the people from California think everyone here is really good looking, but everyone else has to get over the culture shock and then thinks the out-of-state people are also attractive. |

I dare you to find an ugly person on the campus. Pepperdine attracts beautiful people. |

I think that no Pepperdine student...
I think that no Pepperdine student will disagree with me when I say that a person would be hard put to find a college campus with a higher percentage of absolutely gorgeous people. It’s like being in a movie sometimes. |

Most of the guys and the girls are pretty nice, and the girls are very pretty. Some of the guys can be cute, but be careful, because there are a lot of gay people. |
FactsBirth Control Available?
Yes - The Health Center personnel can prescribe birth control pills. They used to sell condoms as well, but Pepperdine's board of directors decided such behavior conflicted with the school's Christian mission.
Social Scene
Most students seem resigned to Pepperdine’s bleak social scene. While many profess interest in dating, a startlingly high percentage of students have long-distance or off-campus relationships. The socially liberal crowd connects through off-campus parties and the Greek system, while more reserved students instant-message their high school sweethearts.
Hookups or Relationships?
Both are present, though commitment is far more commonplace. The university itself presents an intimidating front against casual dating; programs such as “Relationship IQ” extol the virtues of marriage and commitment and discourage hookups. Pepperdine girls seem content to chase the coveted “ring by spring;” engagement by their senior year. Guys who date often do so in the context of a committed relationship. Hookups happen, but girls tend to tread more carefully around such encounters as they might at a larger university because of the notorious “Peppervine” that makes the average high school rumor mill seem merciful and discreet.
