The student body tries to get people more involved within school events and activities, but being a community college where people are close to home, the students just prefer to do other things that they feel are much cooler.

I havent officially graduated yet, but i know people that have before me. Not much is really supported for a career, but they do encourage you while pursuing to continue your education.

Diverse! It is not uncommon to have my fellow students be from many different countries, cultures and languages. My first day on campus I made friends with a lady from Vietnam who was having trouble passing the test to be an MD because her English wasn't good enough to be understood by patients. I am helping her with English and she is helping me with math!

Registration, enrollment, financial aid, student work source is all streamlined and accessible in a well-thought-out, organized area. Everything is at my fingertips without having to go from room to room, campus to campus or office to office. Efficient, convenient and "user friendly" is the best description of the Academic Experience at Pierce College at Fort Steilacoom.

The library is incredible!! It is extensive with many computers and resources. The staff goes above and beyond the call of duty to find and research answers to my questions or point me to the websites, books and resources. I give them an A+.

Being that Washington State is the home of Microsoft/Bill Gates, Pierce College takes great pride in having state of the art computer network, labs, and network reliability. Each new student enrolled automatically gets a free account for printing in the library. There are dozens of high tech computers in the library and I have never had to wait for one. They also provide specialty computer rooms for silent study, or group study.

The tutoring program is extraordinary. The College makes sure that the resources are available to make me successful.

The Program Director for Criminal Justice is never too busy to meet personally with me to discuss what my career goals are and how to get there. She has many different guest speakers attend her classes to speak on their particular career and unique duties. It gets your mind ticking and opens up possibilities that you didn't know existed.

I never went to other school yet but I'm looking forward too.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I didn't use financial aid for my last 2 quarters.

My professors were great with the students, but I wish the class has open more.

The main reason I chose this school was near my house and the class schedules fit with me.

Due to the bad economy, there are sever budget cuts which reduces class offerings and availability. If you're planning on transferring to a 4 yr, you may be better off taking your first 45 credits and then transferring.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
They're overwhelmed. Don't be afraid to check in weekly on the status of your award. They will try to tell you to "check your online account" but the majority of the time, THEY haven't even posted your award information. The assistant financial aid director, Mary Richards, is slow, lazy, and one of 2 people that handle higher authorizations. So good luck if you have to deal with her.

A lot of the proffesors take far too long to email you back. Some don't even check their voicemail. Do NOT be afraid to use the dean! If thats the only way to get an issue resolved with a lazy instructor, USE IT.

Some classes, the work is few, and some, you wish you never took the class. Definitely use ratemyproffessor.com to get a better idea.

Definitely sign up for Trio if you can. The advisors are second-rate state employees overwhelmed with far too many students.
College Junior 2013-06-19T04:45:17Z
The school has "Worksource", which is a state-funded and usually has 2 people there to review your resume and help you look for jobs but other than reviewing your resume and helping you to cater your resume to the job announcement, you are pretty much on your own.

THeres a tutoring center. A writing center is available in the library during certain hours.

Student ambassadors are great. Trio program is awesome. The faculty advisors need tons of training. The faculty advisors treat you like a number because honestly, they have too many students to "advise" to really care about you. My advisor "completed" my degree plan a mere 5 minutes before I was scheduled to see her. Thank God for Trio. I went to THAT office and they reviewed what my "faculty advisor" had given me and they saved me from taking a degree plan that was not even in line with what the 4 year university wants.

Fairly new science building, great library with plenty of computers, (you get about $10 worth of free printing per quarter, but each page is about .15 cents), if you run out of printing money, your print job will simply not print. There are more than enough computers at the library for everyone. And the campus has wi-fi. The library is 3 stories and has won national awards because of all the features. The library also has a writing center, where students can take in papers, scholarships essays, pretty much anything, to get reviewed by a writing proffessional. I'm not gonna say it's free because you pay for it with your tuition. So use it as often as you'd like. There are also separate rooms where you can go to quietly study or where you and a group can work noisily. They even have an area where you can eat and drink.
If you qualify, definitely sign up for Trio. The counselors there are great. They double check the advisors work and they help to save you time, by not taking unnecessary classes. They even go to bat for you when the rest of Pierce is dragging their feet to complete either a school transcript, or when the Financial Aid office keeps using the poor excuse of "we are overwhelmed with work." I highly recommend Trio.
Definitely use RateMyProffessor.com when researching instructors. It'll save your GPA and a headache. (Some of the instructors think a Masters degree gives them the authority to treat students poorly.)
Good luck if you are a nursing student. The program is extremely competitive. Example: I had a Biology tutor, who was employed by Pierce, who didn't even get into Pierce's nursing program, but this lazy, good-for-nothing male, got into the nursing program that my biology tutor didn't get into. Be weary.
Be very weary of your advisor. A lot of them are new and a lot of them, don't care. So research what the 4 year university wants and bump that against what you need to complete at Pierce. Don't be afraid to ask another advisor for their opinion, but good luck getting a hold of them. The school does not have enough advisors for all the students.

I have only taken one hybrid course and it was alright. It took a few times and a better lap top but I got used to it. We did a group project and the online classroom made it a little more challenging to work together on it.

I am a straight student. I don't have time to use the athletic center, go to campus activities, and have little use for the student center. It does look like a nice gym though. I do use the library a lot and really like it. Help was always easy to get and it was easy to navigate.

Whenever I needed computer or internet access it was always available and always worked properly.
