Weather is unpredictable at times. It is southeast Kansas, afterall. But other than some rain and a little bit of snow it is never too bad.

The town around the school is decently sized. We have most of the typical fast food places and a few dine-in restaurants. The prices are fairly priced and most places offer student discounts of some sort.

Pittsburg State University is known as a party college. Because of this, the dorms try to keep a very close eye on underage drinking and drug use. Most of this is up to the RAs who are trained from day one on how to catch users. The University Police Department responds fast and tickets often.

Housing in Pittsburg often takes advantage of students looking to live off of campus. However, being from a "party school", I can understand why they would increase prices. A lot of different type of living is available in various locations. So, at least there is a lot to choose from.

Most meals are good. Nutritional value concerns me often. Need more healthy meals to be available.

Pitt State has an excellent student teaching program which I will be a part of at a later time. Student teachers are not paid, but still spend almost as much time as a regular teacher in the classroom.

I don't use the off campus housing and I don't know anyone who does.
College Sophomore 2013-08-06T19:29:54Z
We are more strict about parking policies than other things which I would consider to be more important.

I don't participate in the nightlife at my school. There is plenty of it for people who want to party, though. Personally, I think partying is a waste of time.

The whole community dives into the school spirit. It's hard to keep away from all the excitement. Football is what seems to be our biggest draw. Basketball follows quite quickly and I like to say our track and field team are freaking awesome. The sports are lovely and the campus supports athletics 100%

Lots of diversity at Pitt State. Students come from all over.

There are lots of places to go shopping and Pitt State has quite a few events that are open to the public and students. Always something going on.
College Senior 2013-07-29T16:52:01Z
I really like Pitt State. There are lots of people and very helpful staff and professors.
College Sophomore 2013-07-22T15:59:03Z
Drinking occurs often, just as at any other university. I am unfamiliar with the drug scene. Peer pressure is low, there are many students with no interest in drinking and there are activities for them.

Pitt State strives to ensure that their students are surrounded by students of different ethnics to prepare them for the environments they may be working in after graduation. The campus is comprised of mostly whites, but there are numbers of exchange students from many different countries.

I have not had an internship but would love to find one. It would be beneficial to have experience related to your degree to help secure a job once I have graduated as it would look better on prospective resumes.

Fall is by far the best time of year at Pitt State, although it doesn't last long cool breezes along with beautiful trees on campus. The winters are super cold and it snows a lot. The summers are super hot and humid. You get a little taste of all weather at Pittsburg State University.
College Sophomore 2013-07-11T16:22:08Z
Pitt State networks well so that you can hired after completion of your degree. This is good for students because in my personal experience I believe that it will help me reach my professional goals of being respected by piers in the field of fiancee.

Pittsburg State University is has a well respected business program. The most important aspect of getting accepted is to have done well in all aspects of education up until this point. If I had one tip it would be to maintain an adequate grade point average this alone will give you the leg up in getting accepted.

Have not had one but from word of mouth they are a amazing experience, along with average pay. I hope and plan on having an internship. I believe this only prepares you better for your real time work experience. Internships also give you a leg up in the interview aspect with having first hand experience.

I have not had an internship in the nursing field. I am interested in looking into one for next summer, but I am not sure if I will find one. Working as a CNA is one way to use what you've learned in a scene similar to one you might use it in.
College Junior 2013-07-07T04:42:38Z
The nursing program requires a list of prerequisite courses before beginning the program. Among some of those courses include a CNA course, which allows experience as a nursing aide before attending nursing school and teaches the basics of nursing. There is also an application process that takes place in the Fall/Winter for the following school year. Letters of acceptance will be sent around late March - April. The most helpful tip is to use your advisor.

The nursing program at Pitt State is time consuming, but worth it. I enjoy the program and believe it does a good job of teaching in the class room what is needed for the job field. Clinical rotations begin in the first semester of nursing school. They get more numerous as the program continues.
College Junior 2013-07-07T04:37:01Z
The nursing program is great. The class sizes at Pitt State are smaller than major universities. I would choose to go to Pitt again if I had to choose. There are many programs to continue education past BSN. I am not concerned about finding a job due to the high job placement rate of the nursing program.
