College Prowler Take
Pitzer is by no means a technical institute, but student generally feel adequate computer resources are provided. Students will very rarely have difficulty in finding a free computer. The only times difficulties may arise could be during finals and midterms. BLAIS, the online library catalog for the Claremont Consortium Library system is an extremely helpful tool. WebCT is another helpful program hosted by CMC. It is designed to be an extension of in-class instruction. It is primarily used for mini-video lectures, grade distribution, and PowerPoint postings. Pitzer dorms are equipped with a standard Ethernet connection shared by all 5Cs. Internet connections are fast and usually reliable, although the server crashes occasionally. The Pitzer e-mail server has a bad reputation due to recent modifications to the system, however with the new upgrades in place, there is rarely a problem. Many Pitzer students use little more than word processing programs, as a majority of Pitzer students are involved in social sciences. However, for students who seek more, it is there. Like many things at Pitzer, it’s a preference issue. In short, accessibility is good, reliability is good, and if you need something not provided, the administration is good about helping students out. Most students bring their own computer. If you have one, bring it. You can always go down to the lab if you prefer, but for convenience, it is nice to have your own.

Personal Laptop
A
The computer labs are open twenty four hours a day, you receive an allotted number of free prints before you have to pay very cheaply for your prints. Great tech support, great computers in general, though it would make life easier to have your own laptop.

Some New Technology, All Computers Work, No Crowding
A
There are computers available for use all over campus including a new Mac lab. I have never had to wait for a computer or sat down at a computer that didn't work. Printing is easy and there is an attendant that works RIGHT by the printers to make sure they work. Lab techs are available full time to help with campus computers and the IT department is very helpful with wireless for your personal computer. Wireless works all over campus so connecting to the internet in the dorms or classrooms is never a problem.

The Need for Personal Computer or Printer
A-
In college, the need for a personal computer is very high. Everyone I know has their own personal computer because the professors are always assigning papers or articles to read online and no one wants to live in the computer lab just to get their homework done. Personal printers are not necessary but they do help. We get print credit at the lab at the beginning of each semester, which is really nice, but it runs out pretty quickly, especially if you have to print really long readings for class.

Bring Your Own Computer
A
It's definitely best if you bring your own computer, but there is a computer lab. However they just made it much smaller, so it can get a little crowded in there. Pitzer has wi-fi all over campus and in the classrooms, and the network speed is pretty fast and reliable. You can print from the computer lab, and remote printing is also available.
