Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The city of Claremont is a safe community, and the majority of Pitzer students feels very safe and secure on campus. The Claremont Colleges have campus security available 24/7, as well as emergency call-boxes that will immediately alert Campus Safety if you need help. Though Claremont is a very quiet town, small crimes are committed a few times each year, such as thefts or students running into unwanted "townies" while out for a late-night run by themselves. It is for this reason that Pitzer strongly suggests traveling with at least one other person at all times. If something were to occur, the Pitzer administration always informs the entire student body of the details of the incident, including suggestions on how to avoid these circumstances from reoccurring. Pitzer students use the key-card system, which allows only students to enter Pitzer academic buildings and dormitories. Pitzer also recently installed video surveillance to keep out unwanted visitors.

The Student Health Center is a wonderful addition to the Claremont Colleges that provides physical, emotional, and psychological assistance to all students. The center, located on Pomona's campus, has a friendly staff that never hesitates to offer help.

Safety at Pitzer College

There has never been a point where I have felt unsafe on Pitzer's campus. The campus is rather small and very community oriented. Doors to every building are locked, you must have an ID card to get in. There are emergency towers that are placed all over campus that can be used at anytime of day or night, if a real emergency were to arise. Campus security is a common presence during the day and night, especially at all parties. Pitzer did a very good job during freshman orientation making sure that all the freshman had the correct phone numbers and information to contact emergency and non-emergency campus security.

Safety

I don't ever recall feeling unsafe on campus. However, when I was a Junior, while sleeping in my dorm (my roommate in the next bed) and our room was visited by an intruder. Nothing happened to me physically, but my purse was stolen, along with my wallet and keys (including car). Campus safety took a report, but nothing came of it. After that we kept our door locked.

I didn't walk alone after a party in the middle of the night, but when I would walk alone from evening classes, I didn't feel like my safety was threatened. Still, there are always issues of safety no matter where you are, just use your common sense at Pitzer and most likely you'll be fine.

On another note, I receive a lot of parking tickets from campus safety. I ended up using the tickets as my wall paper. It was a nice pink and yellow wall by the end of the school year. Thanks campus safety!

Crime?

Crime really isn't an issue here...except for the occasional bike theft or townie sneaking up on someone running. Nothing too serious. Camp Sec is chill and they don't bother you unless you need it
