Because Claremont is a fairly small town, most everything is within walking distance from Pitzer. "The Village" has a lot of what college students need, so it is very convenient in location. When you stray from the Village, however, that's when things can get tricky. Los Angeles is probably the most frequented city by Pitzer students, but getting there can be a bit of a hassle. The Metrolink station is conveniently located in The Village, so students can hop on one and it will take them right to Union Station in LA. Once there, you will have to figure out the somewhat confusing bus and subway schedules. Make sure you have a place to sleep if you're planning on staying late, though—the Metrolink trains stop running a little earlier than most night owls would like.

Having a car would be a wise choice for those who are weary of becoming claustrophobic in the "Claremont Bubble." Take into consideration, however, the steep gas prices and ever-present LA traffic. Some students at Pitzer survive every year without a car, but a good deal of them wish they had one. There is so much to explore in Los Angeles County, so whatever you decide (car or not), be sure to take advantage of all that Southern California has to offer!
