College Prowler Take

Students agree that Southern California weather is nice. If you like the snow, Pitzer is only 45 minutes from Big Bear Mountain. If you like to tan at the beach, Pitzer is only 40 minutes from Huntington Beach. When asked about weather, students usually use words like wonderful, amazing, fantastic, and stupendous. The truth is, if you wouldn’t like Pitzer’s weather, you’re probably a big fan of clouds, fog, and other forms of depressing weather. During the first few and last few months of the academic year, some think the weather is a bit too hot. For most, it is bearable, but make sure to bring a fan, swim trunks, sunscreen, and shorts, because it’s not unlikely to hit the 100-degree mark. Come winter, have a rain jacket or an umbrella and a sweatshirt or two for cool evenings and a few chilly days. Even though it can be cooler in the mornings, by most afternoons, it warms up to a bearable temperature, even on the coldest of days.

Let’s be honest, few places can boast weather like Southern California. This is definitely one of the draws to attend Pitzer College. It still rains on occasion, but with so few days of rain, it can be a welcomed change. The one thing that can become a little gross is the pollution. If breeze and rain are absent for too long, the air can stagnate and get nasty. On bad days, the mountains above campus are merely a puff of brown haze. Even at its worst, it’s only an eye-sore and leaves a lovely coat of pollutants over everything, especially your car.

The weather rocks; there is maybe two weeks of rain per year. Pack shorts, capris, sunscreen, and flip-flops—you’re in California now.

It is really bloody hot for about the first four weeks of school. Half the dorms are not air conditioned. Bring lightweight clothes and a fan. However, in the winter it can get a bit chilly, and it does rain, so bring an umbrella.

The weather is always wonderful! The most you need is a warm hoody, some closed-toed shoes for winter, and an umbrella. Otherwise, dress for summer.

The weather is pretty nice—sunny most of the time. It gets pretty hot during October, sometimes we reach around 100 degrees. It hardly rains, but when it rains, it’s going to last a while.
