Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking at Pomona is easy, as long as you’re willing to make some concessions. Generally, the student lots are full, and I mean always full. Who drives all those cars? How did they get their spots when no one can ever find a spot? These questions may remain forever unanswered. Fortunately, there is plenty of parking on campus if you’re willing to give up on the prime spots. There is street parking all over campus, and there is always a spot somewhere, but it might be quite a walk from your destination (but really, on a six- by five-block campus, how bad can it be?). Parking will likely improve in the near future, as part of the problem has been construction that takes up many of the available parking spots.

Parking in the Village is a bad idea, as there are some very bizarre rules governing when it is okay and when it is not, and you will almost surely get a ticket, if you are lucky. If you’re not lucky, your car will get towed, and by the time you get it to retrieve it, it very well might be stripped of all resellable parts. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Campus Safety is pretty uptight about handing out tickets to parking violators, but you can’t really blame them when there is plenty of parking available that people are too lazy to use. Some people swear that if you just don’t register your car with Campus Security then they can give you as many parking tickets as they like, and you can just keep tearing them up. The only problem with this is that they will eventually call the police, and then your car will likely be towed, stripped, or worse. Still, some people seem able to get away with it. It’s your neck.

Where Do I Park My Car?

Freshmen are not allowed to have a car on campus unless they have a really good reason to have it (i.e. frequent medical appointments). For the upperclassmen, there is a new parking structure with enough space for everyone, albeit the school is very small.

Parking

It is $60 to keep a car at school, but our campus is not very car-friendly, and it would be absolutely ridiculous to drive to class rather than walking 2-10 minutes. Parking spaces are always available and usually convenient.

Get a Car! Need a Spot? Find an Upperclassman

Cars are off-limits to freshmen, but many bring them anyway. All you need to do is find a sophomore or older who's willing to get a parking pass for you. And if you have a car, BRING IT! I expected, accustomed to the ease of public transit in Boston, that I'd have no problems getting in and out of LA. The Metrolink, albeit close by, has horrible hours. And we are disconnected from LA public transit, instead having the Foothill Transit system. Seeking a liberal arts school and an urban location (unfortunately, such a combo is few and far between), I thought I wouldn't mind the 30 mile distance from the city... the quality of public transportation proved me wrong.
