It's seen a bit but not much but then again it all depends on the type of person you want to be and become. It also depends the group of friends you have.

Off campus dinning at PSU is one of the best. There are a variety of options to choose from and all taste great.

The students and faculty at PSU are very friendly people. People here are usually friendly and are looking to become friends with new people that they meet.

Campus is probably one of the only places in the city where there is diversity. We have a lot of International students, and a diverse student community in general. Many different ethnic backgrounds and religions are enthusiastically accepted, and there is a very visible LBGTQI2-S/Alliance presence.

For those who are 21+ there is a city full of nightlife. If you're underage there are house parties, and some music venues that are 18+ and all ages, and we have a vibrant music scene here. Public transportation is reasonable, but buses stop running around midnight, so you rely on designated drivers and taxis quite a bit. We also are one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world.

Sports at PSU are really important to the athletes and their friends/families, but in my experience we're more of a Liberal Arts focused campus--students in general are more interested in outdoors activities like camping and hiking, volunteering in the community, and sustainable/green environmental practices. That doesn't mean people are disinterested in sports, there is just more recognition for the city's/states professional teams, or athletics at other Oregon colleges.

Health & Safety:
PSU is an open, public campus and is located downtown, so it's not uncommon to see homeless etc. individuals around the area, although they rarely panhandle or interact with students. Over the past year there have been 4 instances of sexual assaults on campus, but Campus Security responds quickly (even instantly emails alerts to all students when incidents occur, with live updates) and immediately made an arrest in the most recent incident. They are readily available for security escorts, especially in the evening, upon request. As a woman who is used to living in a big city (which involves being vigilant when walking alone at night) I have never felt unsafe on campus.

Places come available and then go fast, so you've got to be checking every day. Prices range wildly depending on location. On-campus housing is super expensive so off-campus is definitely the best option. There's a lot of communal houses around town too.

PSU is a lot more diverse than my hometown college Boise State. There are mostly white people with POCs being a minority (after all Portland is one of the least racially diverse cities), but there is a MUCH larger portion of LGBTQ students at PSU.

Guys & Girls:
The people on campus are very diverse. There's a lot more than just guys and girls on campus... a lot of students don't fit into the gender binary at all, which is cool.

Portland is known for it's food carts! Many to choose from and very affordable!

PSU offers a unique opportunity called the Senior Capstone. You study outside of the classroom, working with Oregon's farmers, or with the local businesses. It gives you real life experience.

Fantastic athletic rec center you can even use in the summer!

Food trucks, parks, nightlife happy hours, student discounts for everything, I love it!

Parking is pretty bad, as the campus is downtown and competing with other traffic. There is great public transportation and lots of people bike, I recommend that.

I haven't seen any evidence of a drug problem, and I always feel safe on campus.

I needed more than I received, and it wasn't easy to get what I did.

Tons of food carts nearby with great tasting and affordable food, restaurants are scattered around the area, but there is not much groceries available without much travel.

The public transportation in Portland is excellent. Easy access to trains and buses that will take you anywhere in Portland, east to Gresham, west to Hillsboro. Walking and biking is very popular and the city is very friendly to both.

From my experience there is very little pressure to be involved in any kind of drug use. There aren't many bars in the immediate area, but it's a short trip to downtown. Although, there isn't a lot to do right around campus, so drinking is popular, of course. Marijuana use is about average, but you can get in trouble for smoking in the dorms.

Portland State doesn't seem to have the largest Greek life. However the Greek events I have witnessed are nothing but positive. Often times they are running fundraisers for local programs around Oregon.

There are plenty of computer labs all around campus, and the computers themselves are recent models, plenty of speed and capability. Mostly PCs, but Apple computers are available. The network in the labs are wonderful, while the wireless around campus and in the dorms is adequate. With so many devices connected it does slow down at times, and sometimes personal computers will temporarily disconnect sporadically throughout the day.

The city of Portland has one of the cleanest and safest public transportation around. They happen to run right through Portland State University making it very accessible for students to get around the city. Also as a student you are permitted to ride the street car for absolutely free! For an out of state student like myself it is also wonderful to have a direct way to get to the airport such as what Portland has.

Parking situation okay. It is really expensive. Ticketing occurs frequently.

I have had a great experience academically, at least so far
