College Prowler Take
With the pressures of getting into a top-tier school like Princeton, many of the matriculating students missed some of the more active social lives that their high school classmates had the opportunity to experience. Socializing freshman year is awkward at best. Freshman girls are pursued by the more experienced upperclassmen while freshman boys wait for their turns to come. After a freshman year of casual dating or hooking up, Princeton women become less desirable as they age, until, by senior year they see their male classmates attempt to chase the younger women on campus.
It is difficult to place a single stereotype on the Princeton man or Princeton women, as many of us would like to think that we are like alumni Dean Cain (’88) and Brooke Shields (’87), but the diversity of student character and experience makes it difficult to pigeonhole everyone. There are few amazingly attractive men or women on campus, but everyone knows about them, if not only because of the Nassau Weekly’s annual top ten list. Princeton students generally try to take care of themselves, so while there is no danger of running into the next hottest supermodel, it is easy to surround yourself with attractive, witty, well-educated people.

At Princeton, you find guys and girls from all across the spectrum. There are definitely geeky kids and outgoing kids. Who you hang out with just determines which of the two you see more often. Finding an attractive guy tends to be a problem for girls sometimes.

Not only are the girls cute, but they are also smart, nice, and not scary. The only downside is that as Princeton tends to have people who are used to success, guys tend to fear the whole asking-out thing. We have a lot of serious couples and hookups but minimal dating. |

On the whole, there are attractive people here. After visiting, a friend of mine described Princeton as being full of beautiful, disgruntled people. I don’t know if I agree about disgruntled, though. Princeton people are fairly good-looking. A recent study has shown that about a third of Princeton alums marry other Princeton alums. Read into that however you like. They’re not naturally gorgeous so much, but well kempt, if that makes sense. They take care of themselves and are attractive. |

You have a nice selection of good-looking guys and girls if you go to the right places. Generally, if you go to the eating clubs on a Thursday or Saturday night, you’ll find the best-looking people on campus. However, don’t expect to find too many in a 300-level math class. On the whole, I’d say the people on campus are better-looking than most colleges, and many outsiders have said the same. |

The guys are 50/50. As for the girls, they are spilt, too. You have the stuck-up rich snobs, and then you have the everyday girl, who is friendly and loves to go out and make new friends. You have to remember, though, that there are three other major colleges within 30 minutes of you, so you can always meet people form other schools when you go out. You are not limited to just Princeton kids; you have Rutgers, College of New Jersey, and Rider, and within an hour, you have all the New York and Philly schools. People are never a problem and neither are hot guys. |

Office can have their birth control prescriptions filled at health services for a discounted fee. Social Scene
Like any university, Princeton students range from studious ones who rarely go out to those who can hardly be called students. For some students, Princeton provides a "work hard, party hard" environment, which is initially surprising because of the rigor of Princeton's academic program. Contrary to popular belief, not all Princeton students are nerds or trust- fund kids, so most find their niche quickly. Unfortunately, the Greek scene, strong athletic teams, and eating clubs slightly fragment the student body, but they also help some students gain some sort of identity of campus.
Hookups or Relationships?
The Princeton hookup scene is relatively isolated to underclass girls and upperclass men. By junior and senior year, Princeton women generally date or get involved in serious relationships, while Princeton men play the field more. Because male Princeton freshmen are at the absolute bottom of any dating hierarchy, they tend to remain in relationships from high school rather than face rejection from the women on campus.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
The best place to meet other students initially is in residential colleges, whether it is in the dining hall or in one's RA group, which helps give freshmen social options on campus. Fraternity and sorority rush starts several weeks after the freshmen arrive on campus, and the Greek scene draws a small fraction of students into Greek life. For everyone else, social interaction can occur on a regular basis anywhere from "the Street" to campus religious gatherings. Princeton students are notorious for getting spring fever, or simply frolicking whenever the weather is warm. Mysteriously, the rate of random hookups seems to increase during warm weather periods, such as Freshman Week and in the spring (this may also be a correlation between relatively slow work periods).
Dress Code
Generally, Princeton students represent a happy medium between preppy and fashionable. It is rare to see a student show up to class in sweatpants or anything resembling pajamas. Few students have what could be called an urban look. Guys usually wear polo shirts and khakis, and girls wear comfortable, stylish clothes. Recent uniforms have included Lilly Pulitzer attire, Longchamp bags, and Seven and Paper Denim & Cloth jeans.
