Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Adequate is the best word to describe campus housing, but for PC students who are very involved and always on the move, this isn't a concern as they rarely find themselves in their rooms other than to sleep. Ranging from old and in need of repair, to newer suites, campus housing covers the entire gamut of possibilities. Everyone recommends that freshmen choose an all-freshman dorm to create solidarity with their class. Sophomore year on the quad is practically a necessity. Dore and Fennell are best for quiet and laid-back types who prefer single living and longer walks to class. St. Joe’s, Guzman, and McDermott can all get a bit rowdy and rack up quite a few fines. Aquinas boasts of having in-room sinks, a short walk to class, and a central location. The all girl dorms—Raymond, Meagher, and McVinney—tend to be quieter and less prone to damages.

Although PC doesn’t guarantee housing all four years, it has never had a problem accommodating students in the past. With the addition of the fabulous suites, housing is better than ever. Housing is assigned by Residence Life freshman year based on preference to buildings and room size. A survey provides the basis of roommate assignments, and compatibility generally upholds, as members of the Office of Residence Life spend the entire summer personally handpicking roommates, ensuring an accuracy that no computer program can match. After freshman year, a lottery system determines housing, which is annoying if you get a poor time. While space in most of the dorms is sufficient, frustration over crowded laundry rooms is common. Each dorm is equipped with a study lounge, but Aquinas’ is the most frequented. Physical plant is very good at responding to requests regarding anything from a leaky window or a missing dresser when you arrive in the fall. The maintenance request line, “FixIt,” has definitely increased efficiency. Overall, the dorms at PC are not too big and not too small, but just right.

Campus Living

Campus dorms are renovated quite frequently, so majority of them are impeccable. The freshman dorms are clean and neat, but a little tight on space. Sophomores have the option of choosing suites, apartments, or dorms. The suites and apartments are beautiful, and the buildings are very clean.

Campus Living

The dorms at PC I would say are pretty average, but as freshman no body really knows a difference. It's not until sophmore year and higher that students are able to have a choice of living in an apartment or suite style building, which are wonderful. Although the cost is much higher, some provide full kitchens, and since the campus is relatively small, they are still in a convenient location to classes and dining areas on campus. The atmosphere in these suites and apartments is also very positive because you can fit more people in your room and hang out in common rooms, so it is much more fun.

Pretty Average

The freshmen dorms are freshmen dorms. And really you can't get anything good until Jr. and Sr. year. It's worth the wait but sophomore year the rooms can get small.
