Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

At least thrice a year, students will get an e-mail explaining that the network will be shut down for a period of about four hours due to servicing. Luckily, however, this maintenance usualy occurs during the night or at a time in which no self-respecting college student would be awake. It’s hard to maintain control of your emotions when you receive such news. What on earth will you do without Facebook for four hours? The answer: Snood. Those two activities are the real reason you’ll want to bring your own computer to PC. The computer labs on campus are sufficient but can get crowded during midterms and finals. If you are able to employ a degree of leniency into your schedule, you will be fine. The network at PC is comparative to high-speed DSL, and more importantly, it’s free, which is music to a college student’s ears. The degree of felicity supplied by the network varies from minor frustration to complete satisfaction.

The network has its ups and downs throughout the year. Students are responsible for their own virus software, which, if everyone used, would seriously diminish the viruses on the network and increase server speed. Another option many PC students are turning to is the world of Apple. Macs are becoming a frequent sight on campus, and as of now, students don’t have to worry about viruses on them. The Help Desk and Computer Services are always willing to help if you get a virus or just have a persnickety laptop. While theft is not a frequent occurrence on campus, you want to take every precaution available, including registering high-priced equipment with the Office of Safety and Security. As a matter of convenience and social utility, your own computer is the best route to go. Besides, who wants to actually call people to make plans for dinner when you can instant message all 20 of them at once?

Terrible

The computers are terrible. The keys are sticky and just in general are slow. Not to mention the wifi here is very weak. Printing is pretty easy

Fairly Good

Most students have their own computers, but there are computer labs open, and some are available in the library, as well. They give students $40 credit for printing for the year, which is more than enough, but if you need more credit, you can add your own money to your account. The Wifi can be shaky at times, but is usually accessible somewhere public on campus, but it helps a lot if you bring your own ethernet cord. Wifi is available in all buildings on campus. It definitely helps to have your own computer, but it's not necessary to bring your own printer.

Computers

It can be tricky to find an open computer in the library, but there are multiple computer labs throughout campus that are generally not too full. Mostly everyone has a laptop.

Laptops are available for checkout at the circulations desk in the library for a two-hour period of use.

The library has 4 iMacs in a high-end Creation Station Macintosh Lab, allowing for film students and students looking to produce exquisite presentations to “create” with state-of-the-art equipment.

There is a room on the second floor of the library in which students can videotape themselves as they practice their presentations for classes. They can then watch their presentations on a computer and tweak them accordingly to ensure an “A” on presentation day.
