Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There's an age-old question that haunts parents of college-bound children: Is my child going to be safe at school? Providence College takes safety and security seriously, as the numerous lectures on it during orientation and freshman year prove. While freshman girls may feel that living in an all-girl dorm, which requires males to sign in, is like living in a prison, others consider the Huxley Avenue entrance a security joke. Overall, PC has put into place numerous security measures to ensure both student and parental peace of mind. The use of common sense and awareness of one’s surroundings is the best preventative measure. General consensus relates, “I have never felt unsafe at PC.”

Operating on the blue-light system, PC has emergency call-boxes all over campus. Escort and shuttle services are available, and the all-female dorms are monitored by guards. While getting on to campus is simple, the real safety of students is up to themselves—that is why they are constantly reminded not to let anyone we do not know into the card-controlled dorms. PC security can boast of a fantastic reaction time and personal concern for the students. The administration excels in keeping students informed by posting occurrences and security concerns.

Pretty Safe

Usually if you don't look like an easy target nobody will try to attack you. However, there are times when people do get mugged on campus and it is an inconvenience but safety and security are usually there right away and they do a very good job at resolving the problem. I feel pretty safe walking around my campus late at night.

Safe on Campus, Off Campus Be Alert

The security guards on campus are wonderful and greet every student with nothing but smiles and provide us with many laughs. However, PC is situated in a very bad part of Providence but it's very easy to forget that when you're in the "PC Bubble." We get "crime alerts" every time there's a crime around the area, not just involving PC students but also members of the community. You just have to employ common sense to any situation off campus. You will only find yourself in danger if you go looking for it. On campus I've never felt unsafe and this is a statement I hear echoed by my peers.

Completely Safe

There are security guards at every gate that provides an entrance to the school that prevents anyone from getting in. There are shuttles that take students around campus at night.
