Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you’re looking for a smoother transition to post-college life, off-campus housing may be the choice for you. But there are downfalls. While all the houses are on the streets immediately surrounding campus, migrating to campus in the bitter cold may take a little more motivation. Renting an off-campus house may seem like a rule-free college experience, but it comes equipped with its own set of worries, including bills, landlords, and housemates, and some of the houses are poorly maintained, while others are newly renovated. Pinehurst, Oakland, and Pembroke are some popular off-campus streets and usually play host to late-night and ticket parties.

The college now requires students to get permission before they can move off campus, and freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus. If you decide to move off campus, the Office of Off-Campus Living makes finding a livable space much easier by providing listings of available spaces, cooperative landlords, and people searching for housemates. Living off campus isn’t for everyone, but those responsible enough to handle the bills and walking to campus seem to thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Providence Off Campus

there are some great apartments but they are quite costly and the ones that are more reasonable are in very poor unsafe areas. I am going into an apartment next fall mostly because I can not afford to live on campus and I am hoping that this will help. the lococal area is unsafe to walk to places for shopping, eating and I will have to get a car.

Off campus houses offers students the perfect mix between living close to campus without being surrounded by people or RAs. High rental costs are balanced with trustworthy and negotiable landlords.

The off-campus houses are disgusting and broken down. The only reason I can see for living in one would be to get away from parietals. Also the houses are not in a very safe area.
