College Prowler Take
Be prepared to bleed black and gold, prospective students! As a Big Ten university, Purdue (and its students) take great pride in its athletic teams. During football season, there is no other place to be other than tailgating before the games and cheering in the stadium stands. Boilermaker pride is rampant. Purdue’s football team consistently attends bowl games, including the Rose Bowl, and the women’s basketball team has participated in the NCAA National Tournament several times. Thanks to the prolific club sports and intramural sports, there are plenty of opportunities for students to get involved in the athletic life. But if you don’t see your favorite sport listed, you’re always welcome to start up your own club. The increasing international population at Purdue has added to the amount of athletic clubs as everyone brings a sport from their home country. Athletics is one of the big equalizers at Purdue University, and it is one of the best ways to make lifelong friends. Attending games is a distinctive Boilermaker tradition. If you don’t feel your heart swell with pride when the black and gold beat down their opponents, then be prepared to be placed in the minority.

At Purdue, for a true Boilermaker, football is life. Sports are huge here. Intramurals are very popular, especially with the Greeks and in the residence halls. |

Sports are big, especially if the team is good. Lots of people go to football and basketball games. Other stuff, not so much. IM sports are really big too—especially with the frats. But, there are lots of opportunities for people to play IM sports. |

Football and basketball (it couldn’t be a Hoosier school if it wasn’t) are the big sports, but sporting events of all kinds are attended by students. I rarely hear of IM sporting events, though, but maybe that’s just because I never read the sports page in the newspaper. |

Being a Big Ten school, most varsity sports are really big. In the fall, on Saturdays, you go to football games. There is no other option. Or you gather with friends to watch it. Basketball is also very big, but this is Indiana, what do you really expect? IM sports are big, if you live in organized housing (Greek, co-op, residence halls), but not so big if you live in an apartment. |

All I know is that football players are huge, because football is so important at Purdue. I don’t know much about IM sports, except that there’s an ultimate Frisbee team that travels as far away as West Virginia to compete, so that’s cool! |

Most Popular Sports
All varsity-level sports are extremely popular, but if you’re attending Purdue, the three sports to which we all hail are football, women’s basketball, and men’s basketball. On game days, the campus shuts down, as everyone either attends the game or watches it from home. Let’s go Boilers!
Most Overlooked Teams
Rugby is one of the most interesting and misunderstood sports here in the United States. Barely any students are aware of the Purdue men’s rugby club. Check out one of their games for an entertaining afternoon.
Best Place to Take a Walk
Anywhere on Purdue’s campus. Check out the Tree Tour (a tree-by-tree brochure is available in the union), or just meander around the horticultural area during the spring months when the gardens have been planted.
Did You Know?Purdue Pete, represents all Purdue students. He is present in every home game. Four students annually are chosen to be Purdue Pete. They have to maintain a 2.0 GPA and report to University Hall weekly to have their academic progress monitored.
