College Prowler Take
The drug scene on Purdue’s campus is much like the wind blowing through the trees—you can’t see it, but you know it’s there. The drug lifestyle is pretty much hidden away underground. Students agree that if you wanted to find such substances, you would have no problem doing so, but you won’t have pushers coming up to you on the Memorial Mall. That isn’t to say that drugs don’t exist, but the most visible drugs at Purdue are the same that will be found on any college campus: alcohol, cigarettes, and caffeine, with small doses of marijuana scattered here and there. A student could easily sail through their time at Purdue without ever encountering the drug scene—unless they really wanted to find it.

I will mention that an alarming number of people smoke cigarettes. Lots of people smoke pot, too. |

I wouldn’t say that drugs are rampant at Purdue. It is very tame for a college town. I would say that alcohol and marijuana are abused most frequently. |

There’s an active group of pot-smoking hippies that have cool ‘drumming for pot legalization’ things on the Memorial Mall, so they’re kind of fun to watch. |

I would say that the drug scene...
I would say that the drug scene here is pretty minimal. There aren’t that many big-time drug users on this campus, but then again, it’s a fairly big campus, and I don’t know everybody. I will say that you don’t hear much about people with drug problems, or big drug busts on campus, or anything like that. |

I’m not really into the drug scene...
I’m not really into the drug scene at all, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be too difficult to find someone who would be willing to point you in the right direction. On a side note, make sure you don’t get caught up in those circles. The local police follow that stuff closely, and they enjoy busting a whole slew of students at one time. If you’re a Purdue student arrested on drug charges, don’t expect to be a Purdue student for much longer. |
