Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The University area has a huge amount of housing to offer. Apartment complexes are lucky to get 85 percent occupancy, which means housing sometimes becomes more affordable as fall semester approaches. However, most students will tell you that the best time to start looking for apartments is as soon as you decide to move off campus. Students who chose to live off campus are overwhelmingly happy with their decision. Off-campus housing at Purdue can mean an apartment that’s a five-minute walk to campus, and it is much cheaper than living in University residence halls.

Students may grumble slightly about the price of off campus living at Purdue, but the prices you will pay at West Lafayette are much lower than apartments at other colleges, especially with so many apartment complexes fighting each other for business. Also, since many apartments are within walking distance of campus, and shuttles run for free from campus to the major apartment complexes, a car is more of a luxury than a necessity. Purdue has provided a major housing boom for the city. Many old homes situated near campus buildings are bought by property managers and renovated into efficiencies. These types of housing options are usually the best, as the houses are newly re-modeled and available at a lesser price than a proper apartment building. It is fairly easy to find an apartment that suits your needs, as they are abundant.

Most Places Are Really Nice

There are a few more expensive options close to purdue however many are very reasonably priced. The only major con is that most places do not have internet that is not that great. There are a few places to stay away from but again most are very nice and reasonable. Also many offer different options on pricing. For most you can have 4 roommates and pay the least or you could be by yourself and pay much more. It all depends on your needs and ability to be financially responsible.

Lots of Choices for Good Prices

I am currently on campus but have looked into off campus housing. There are plenty of choices and the facilities seem to be very up to date and maintained. most rent includes everything but electric bill. They are reasonably priced as well (assuming you have 3-4 roommates). I have seem most from 300-500 which is pretty good for apartments near a college campus, which i think is due to the amount of competition keeping prices down. Also, the closer you get to campus, the higher the prices go.

Many Diverse Apartment Available

There are many apartments near the campus that may fit into what you are looking for. There are Apartments currently under construction that may be open by the fall of 2012. There are apartments that are cheap and decent and something a lot more luxurious if the expense isn't the biggest issue for you.
