  • There are nice little bike paths everywhere on Purdue’s sidewalks, and there are many racks outside buildings where you can chain them up.
  • Walking around the beautiful campus and West Lafayette is a great free work out.

How to Get to the Airport

  • A cab ride to the airport costs around $10–$15, which is too much. Take the CityBus route to the airport, it’s free.
  • By bus (highly recommended): Take CityBus route 4B Purdue West/Airport. It should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes from campus.
  • By car: From I-65, take SR 26 east through Lafayette and West Lafayette. Take a left onto Newman Road, which becomes U.S. Hwy. 200, taking you directly to the airport.

College Prowler Take

CityBus provides transportation both for Purdue’s campus and the Greater Lafayette area. Students find it to be modern and easily accessible. Students will tell you that it is usually quicker to walk where you need to go on campus instead of taking a bus, but on swelteringly hot or bitterly freezing days, the miniscule amount of time you lose by taking the bus is worth it for the air conditioned or heated comfort. The transportation system is especially stellar for students living off campus who don’t want to deal with the hassle of parking on campus. The major apartment complexes have shuttles that will ferry students for free, while others have CityBus stops relatively nearby. For those who want to have a fun time at the bars and not have to worry about driving home, the late-night bus route, called the "Night Rider," starts at 10 p.m. and runs until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

While going to the mall or Wal-Mart on public transportation takes an absurdly long time, the system works amazingly well for the campus and the areas close by. If you’re going to the opposite end of the town and have pressing time restraints, it may be in your best interest to snag a friend to drive you. But, otherwise, Purdue’s transportation provides a definite relief from the hassles of walking or parking on campus.

Public transportation is very convenient in getting around town. But, sometimes the drivers of the buses can be very scary, and spring you from the back of the bus to the front from jamming on the brakes. Then, sometimes the buses are scarce, and you can’t always depend on them. Sometimes you’re better off walking to class, because you can beat the bus to it.

It’s sort of convenient. You can use the bus, but it’s hard to figure out where and when things happen with that.

Bus rides are a good way to get to class comfortably, especially during the harsh winters. However, it’s not much of a time saver. In fact, sometimes the bus can take longer than walking.

Public transportation is very convenient. With your student ID, you can take the buses for free anywhere in Lafayette, and there are a bunch of loops that go around campus for students living in apartments who don’t want to drive.
