Best Ways to Get to the Airport
  • A cab ride to the airport costs around $10–$15, which is too much. Take the CityBus route to the airport, it’s free.
  • By bus (highly recommended): Take CityBus route 4B Purdue West/Airport. It should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes from campus.
  • By car: From I-65, take SR 26 east through Lafayette and West Lafayette. Take a left onto Newman Road, which becomes U.S. Hwy. 200, taking you directly to the airport.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

CityBus provides transportation both for Purdue’s campus and the Greater Lafayette area. Students find it to be modern and easily accessible. Students will tell you that it is usually quicker to walk where you need to go on campus instead of taking a bus, but on swelteringly hot or bitterly freezing days, the miniscule amount of time you lose by taking the bus is worth it for the air conditioned or heated comfort. The transportation system is especially stellar for students living off campus who don’t want to deal with the hassle of parking on campus. The major apartment complexes have shuttles that will ferry students for free, while others have CityBus stops relatively nearby. For those who want to have a fun time at the bars and not have to worry about driving home, the late-night bus route, called the "Night Rider," starts at 10 p.m. and runs until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

While going to the mall or Wal-Mart on public transportation takes an absurdly long time, the system works amazingly well for the campus and the areas close by. If you’re going to the opposite end of the town and have pressing time restraints, it may be in your best interest to snag a friend to drive you. But, otherwise, Purdue’s transportation provides a definite relief from the hassles of walking or parking on campus.

Walking Is the Way to Go

The public transportation system at Purdue has buses going from campus to spots around West Lafayette and back every ten minutes. It makes it easy for anyone to go anywhere. At night, the "nightrider" runs all night so there is no need to walk a long distance. For students on campus, walking is the biggest thing. In the winter, some students prefer short bus rides from dorm to class but a lot of people don't mind the 10 minute walk.

Transportation Rocks

There is very good transportation - you can grab a bus to class, to the local walmart, off campus restaurants and activities or late at night back to the dorm.

Convenience

Public transportation is amazing at Purdue University. There are many buses that you can ride for free with your student i.d. all throughout the day, seven days a week. There are many parking garages, and parking spots on campus as well. There are also shuttle buses that I have taken to get to Chicago or Indianapolis. They run all day long.

The Purdue University Airport is rather small, so flights to and from the Greater Lafayette area might be slightly limited. For a broader selection of flights, you’ll have to head to Indianapolis or one of Chicago’s airports.
