Athletics is an important part of Quinnipiac University. As a Division I school, Quinnipiac has very reputable basketball and hockey teams. Other athletic teams include: baseball, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and tennis. Many people will say that Quinnipiac has an apathetic campus. There is not a widespread sense of school spirit year-round. When a popular team is doing well, the student body will really outdo itself with showing all kinds of school spirit, but it usually takes an ESPN camera crew to bring large crowds out to games.
In 2007, Quinnipiac built a large state-of-the-art sports complex up on the York Hill (upperclassman) campus with two wings: one for hockey and one for basketball. The facility is beautiful and up-to-date with ticket windows where students can swipe their student IDs for free access to games. Though the teams have good and bad seasons, the largest student populations are always at the basketball and hockey games. The famous "Yale Bowl" is the annual Quinnipiac-versus-Yale hockey game where many students show their QU pride.
