Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Radford is incredibly inflexible when it comes to the rules, regulations, and standards set forth by the Student Code of Conduct. Rules are ironclad, and punishment is swiftly doled out. Resident Assistants (RAs) are enforcers of these rules, and while many students say their RA is cool, there is always one who will not bend or refuses to look the other way. Drugs and drinking are almost considered intolerable offenses, and city and campus police have no time for excuses or explanations. Students are not punished on a case-by-case basis, and nothing is taken on merit. All rules are applied the same way to everyone, no matter the circumstances.

The Radford City Police Department was recently given a $75,000 grant to help combat underage drinking and drug violations. These policies have been taken to heart by both the University and the local police, and arrests and charges have more then doubled in the past two years. The school also works with the local police force in order to charge students on campus for any off-campus offense, such as underage drinking. Many students find these policies unfair, and not a weekend goes by without a story of a police bust at a party and many tickets being handed out.

The police are rarely on campus. They are very busy getting underage drinkers off campus.

I am a transfer student and first semester Freshman and I was disappointed when I was told that I couldn't participate in Rush this semester because I transferred in with only 6 out of 12 credits that I needed.

The police force here can be absolutely ridiculous and ruthless depending on the night/time of year. They just received a grant to expand so they're literally everywhere you turn. On an average weekend, at least half of the parties will get broken up and shut down. If a party is getting loud and rowdy, you might want to call it a night before law enforcement does. Luckily, we still manage to have a good time!!
