Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The University has always boasted a serious security program on campus. There are several blue-light emergency poles scattered around campus, and the response time is less than two minutes. The reasons for calling can be as simple as needing an escort because it’s late at night, feeling uncomfortable walking alone, or an actual emergency. Security personnel walk the campus at night, and due to the active nature of Radford students, campus and local police patrol until the early hours of the morning.

After the mass shooting at Virginia Tech, which is 15 miles from Radford, RU implemented many new security features. An alert system was installed on campus that involves sirens, text message alerts, phone calls, and e-mails. Students can sign up to receive alerts to their cell phones and e-mail accounts, as well as their parents' accounts. But, overall, Radford students say they feel safe walking across campus, whether it's in the middle of the day or at 2 in the morning. Police are often patrolling at night, and it is not unheard of to see them on a daily basis. University Police are actively involved on campus and in the surrounding city blocks.

Safety

They notify us when there is an emergency very quickly but they should be more concerned with catching criminals that we have had on campus rather than arresting drunk students. We have had, on multiple accounts rape and attempted rape of female students this year.

Safety on Campus

I feel that campus is very safe. Campus is lit at night and cops are always patrolling around. If there is ever any problem cops are there within seconds because of the amount of them. Most building you need an ID card to get in and there are emergency alarms scattered throughout campus.
