Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking is severely lacking on campus, especially for commuter students—the number of available spots for them is nowhere near the number of commuters. Plus, they must share all of their lots with faculty, who get 33 parking lots, 17 of which are restricted solely to faculty and members of administration. Commuter lots are often filled very quickly in the morning, and students often have to hunt for a spot in one of the 12 lots available to them, while many faculty lots are often only half full. Resident students have the unfortunate luck of having to park close to a mile from campus in one of the six resident lots. Residents cannot park anywhere in a commuter or faculty lot until after 6 p.m. Residents must also be wary of parking in Lot Z, as it has been known to flood, and the University does not pay for damages to personal items.

Radford Parking Services is very strict about enforcing parking policies. There are meter maids and a patrol that circles all lots several times a day. Tickets are given quickly and often, and ticket appeals are very rarely granted. The Radford City Police control the side streets, and they are also very aggressive about ticketing. Appeals involve attending court and are almost impossible to win. However, parking permits are easy to obtain for students for a very affordable price.

Far Away

If you live on campus or commute, you have to park across the bridge, which can be a bit of a hassle, but the bus system takes you right to the parking lots. Its along the river so you do have to be careful with flooding when it rains a lot in the fall or spring, but they will let you know if you need to move your car.

Parking at a Cost

There is a lot of parking at Radford, but the spots close to campus tend to fill pretty fast. Also the open spots tend to be very far away from campus. For future references they are about to build some buildings on parking lots, so if you plan to go you should wait until junior year to bring your car. The good thing is parking is in fact free.

The Parking Is Terrible

If you live on campus the parking lots are about 2 miles away. But if you live on campus you really don't need your car. Radford University has an excellent bus service that runs unitll 11:00pm. I don't think that Radford will ever build a parking garage. It is best if you don't need a car, don't bring one to college.
