Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

RPI’s campus itself is very safe. There are phones with emergency buttons located throughout campus, and plenty of Public Safety officers on patrol at any given time. If you do feel uneasy about getting somewhere, the escort service is always available. As for the rest of Troy, however, it can be scary after dark, and it is not advisable to walk around off campus alone. If you leave things lying around for too long, such as a laptop or books, they may not be there when you come back. This is probably the biggest security risk, but at least it’s avoidable. Keep your stuff within eyesight if you are in a public place, or leave it with a friend if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time. Also remember to lock your doors every time you leave—no matter how secure the dorms may seem, you can’t be too careful.

If you stay on campus, you shouldn’t have a problem taking care of yourself. Downtown Troy can be frightening, and for good reason. If you walk around by yourself after dark, you can find trouble—especially if you are female. Stick with friends when walking the streets, and you shouldn’t have any problems. Overall, though, Troy itself could present a real threat if you were under the wrong conditions, yet there isn’t too much to worry about at RPI.

Very Safe

I've never felt unsafe at RPI. Public safety patrolls all the time and there are blue lights all over campus. You can call for a ride if need be. There are always students around

School safety is good. I absolutely hate our health center. Not big enough for the amount of students they get.

Public Safety

I feel safe while on RPI's campus, due to the layout of the campus and the numerous Blue-light emergency phones. The town of Troy, however, is hit or miss, with muggings are at times semi-common. They have dropped off in recent years though.
