Best Place to Take Your ParentsCollege Prowler Take
Pizza shops and Italian delis dominate the off-campus dining scene in Troy. There is a decent variety—you should be able to find whatever you want. For a greater variety, students usually hop in a car and head to Albany for some real restaurants and selection. For the most part, off-campus food in Troy is the same as any other college town. The best (and most affordable) meals can be had at the pizza, Chinese, and deli places. There’s nothing special or unique that would separate the restaurants in Troy from any other college town’s food, with the exception of the Ruck’s “wingburgers” and Troy Pub’s home-brewed beer. If you can find someone with a car, the restaurants on Wolf Road in Albany are definitely worth the trip.

There aren't a whole lot of good restaurants nearby, but you can find a few gems. Big Apple Pizza is practically on campus and is open late. Within walking distance is Brown's, a brewpub that has great burgers and even better craft-brewed beer. There are some coffeehouses in downtown Troy, but you need to be brave enough to explore the area.

Food Options at RPI
A-
There's a lot of great places to eat in Troy proper, but that's down the hill and can be unsafe after dark. However, many restaurants in town allow you to use RPI Advantage Dollars (RAD). I especially recommend Brown's, a brewery/burger joint on the Hudson River. Pizza-wise, there's Pizza Bella (aka Big Apple Pizza) and Da Vinci's Pizza near campus. Both have their rabid followers.

Pizza and Italian shops are...
Pizza and Italian shops are abundant outside the campus, and offers good food at great prices, such as I Love NY Pizza and Goomba’s. Most of these are around Fourth Street in Troy. There are a few nice restaurants around, such as Homes & Watson in downtown Troy, a regular Subway, and Troy Pub and Brewery always has good food. |

My favorite local restaurant is Fresno’s. I Love’s has better pizza than Empire or Hoosick. The wings are excellent at I Love’s and Hoosick. The Ruck’s wings are incomparable. Lee Tang’s Chinese isn’t great, but acceptable, and they give a lot of food for your money. O’Leary’s has good calzones, and Troy Pub and Brewery has always been a fun dining experience for me. |

If you don’t have a car, don’t bother. Otherwise, there’s your regular fare of stereotypical suburban American handouts, including the various Chinese fast foods. Go to I Love’s for pizza (it’s not as good a NYC pizza, but it’s as close as you’re going to get) and to the mall food court for Chinese. |
