College Prowler Take
If you can see yourself getting excited about a New England fall, then Providence is probably just right for you. It’s true that the winters can be a little harsh, and it definitely rains a lot, but the winters are slightly milder than Boston, not as windy as Chicago, and probably more interesting than the seasonless experience of California or Florida. The most frustrating aspect of Providence weather is its inconsistency. One day it will be unseasonably warm, and the next it will snow. However, this means that the snow doesn’t stay on the ground for very long because as soon as it snows, the weather warms again. Providence summers are ideal because they don’t get too hot. Summer, spring, and fall are very sunny and pleasant when it’s not raining. The fall foliage gives a nice atmosphere, and while it may be a little chilly out, the air usually smells crisp and clean. It’s important to bring lots of layers because most buildings are kept very hot in the winter, and students will cook in their heavy-winter clothes. Remember to get into the spirit—there are plenty of good sledding hills around. But, it is important to remember that winter isn’t the only season Providence has. The beginning of fall and spring tend to be rainy, but the beginning and end of the school year tend to be bright and sunny. Rhode Island has more than 400 miles of beaches, so bring flip-flops and bathing suits for this time of the year.

Weather is very inconsistent. It can get very warm sometimes, and an hour later, it might be snowing. So students should bring all sorts of clothing from T-shirts, tank tops, to heavy duty snow coats and leg warmers. I had a senior friend who once wore a ski mask around because of the chilling winds during the winter. |
