Memphis weather is practically bipolar. In the same week, it can be both a windy 50 degrees and a humid 80 degrees. It's unpredictable, particularly in the fall and spring, but you'll get at least a hint of all four seasons. Expect snow a few times a year, but if you are from the North, you will think it is crazy when all of the Southerners freak out after waking up to just a few inches of white on the ground. Luckily, the beautiful campus remains beautiful even on the dreariest days, and spring is typically particularly rainy. It's definitely a good idea to bring an umbrella and rain boots because the campus tends to flood after even the smallest of downpours.

The best advice is to just be prepared. Don’t think you are entirely safe taking all your sweaters, coats, and sweatpants back home during spring break because it's not surprising to suddenly get hit with a random cold day or two in the middle of April. Same goes for the fall—warm summery days will probably pop up in October. Just keep at least a few tank tops and sweatshirts in your closet all year long, and you will be fine. The good news is that, for the most part, the climate is very pleasant, and there is not a shortage of ways to spend your days outside enjoying the great weather. On particularly warm days, students can be found reading by the pool, listening to music and doing homework on the lawn, going to Mud Island, playing ultimate Frisbee or football with friends, or walking around Beale Street.

Rainy Winters

The weather is great in the summer and spring. We get snow maybe once a year. Be prepared for A TON of rain. Buy Rain boots and a rain jacket. Due to the high levels of humidity you'll need a good jacket, the humidity makes it feel even colder. But when the weather is nice it is simply heavenly. Rhodes is a class/level 4 arboretum (that's the highest) and in the spring it looks amazing when every plant blooms. It's also really nice to tan by the pool in the warmer months.

Usually the weather is rather pleasant and holds around 80-75 degrees all year round. In spring and early winter it cools down to around 40-50 and then we have a rain season from March to April, but I enjoy the weather and feel like it adds to my experience.

Random Weather

When the weather is nice, Rhodes is beautiful, and it makes everyone happier. But when it rains, it floods, and late spring/summer can get pretty hot and humid. Memphis does get all four seasons, though, so in general I have no complaints!
